January 1896

Wednesday 1st    It was a very fine day.  We all went to the Picnic at Dacres Claim.  There were a great many people there, but I did not enjoy myself very much.  Maud , Willie and the children are staying with us, but Maud and the children did not go.  There was a dance in this Hall in the evening.

Thursday 2nd      It was a very fine day.  Maud , Willie and the Children went home today.  We were all cutting Grass Seed in the E.R.  John & Walter were helping us.  John & Walter came from the Kawau the Monday before Christmas day.

Friday 3rd   It was a fine day.   Ernest Wyatt came to help us cut Grass Seed, he is to get 18/- per week.  John & Walter also helped us.

Sunday 5th   It was a fine day.   I read service in the afternoon in the Hall.  Henry & Jane went up to Miss Hardings for tea,  I went up in the evening, they favoured us with a lot of music & I enjoyed myself very much.

Sunday 12th   It was a fine day.   I rode over to Dacres Claim in the morning, Revd J. Haselden held service,  Mr Haselden rode back with me  and dined at our house and then held service in the Hall in the afternoon  and at Pakiri in the evening.

Friday 17th   It was a fine day.   We were thrashing Grass Seed in the E.R.  Ernest Wyatt is still working with us.
Maud, Willie & the children came over in the afternoon to stay here as Willie is going to work here.

Saturday 18th   It was a fine day.   Willie Pratt commenced working here, he & Henry were thrashing & Ernest & I were carrying.  Ernest finished working here today.

Sunday 19th   It was a fine day.   I read service in the Hall in the afternoon.

Monday 20th   We were picking plums all day.

Tuesday 21st   We were picking plums and hauling them down to the Wharf.   The Miss Hardings came from Auckland

Sunday 26th   It was a fine day.    I read service in the Hall in the afternoon.

Monday 27th   It was a fine day.   We were picking plums all day.  Willie was helping us.

Tuesday 28th   We finished picking plums and hauled them down to the Wharf.  The Miss Hardings came up in the Steamer after the Xmas holidays, their brother Charlie came with them.

The remainder of this week Henry & Willie finished thrashing the Grass Seed, and cutting tea tree in the front.
