December 1895

Sunday 1st   It was a fine day.  I read service in the Hall in the afternoon, there was only a small congregation.

Monday 2nd   It was a fine day.   We got the Sheep up in the morning and Henry sheard 2 that we missed before.  We then packed the Wool in 1 Bale and one Sack, there were  84  Fleeces and 1 Skin  speared.

Tuesday 3rd   It was a fine day.  Mr Frearson hauled our wool down to the Wharf.  Finished planting Parsnips the top side of the house.

Wednesday 4th   It was a fine day.   Henry was cutting Oats in the orchards.  I was digging the ground intended for Kumeras.

Thursday 5th   It rained last night, but it was fine to day.  We commenced digging below the dining room window for Pumpkins. We killed a Sheep in the evening.
The Miss Hardings & Fordhams and other young people came here in the evening to practice Christmas Carols.

Friday 6th   It was a very fine day.    We continued digging below the dining room window.  We all went to Pakiri in the evening to a Social given by the ladies,  there were over 100 present and we enjoyed ourselves very much,  we got home about 5.30 am.

Saturday 7th   After we got home I milked the Cows and had breakfast and then went to bed.  It was showery nearly all day.  We were all tired with being out all night and therefore did no work.

Sunday 8th   It was a fine day.   I read service in the Hall in the afternoon , there were only 15 present.  Mr Joseph Greenwood & son and Dan Kempt were here for tea.

Monday 9th   It was a fine day.   We were digging under the dining room window for pumpkins.   We planted 3 rows ( 25 plants ) of Kumeras in the evening 2 ft apart each way.

Tuesday 10th   It was a fine day.   We finished digging the piece of ground under the dining room window, Henry then turned over the Oates, and then went to cut tea tree.  I dug up, manured and sowed 3 hills of Cucumbers .  Planted more Kumeras in the evening.

Wednesday 11th   It was a fine day.   Henry was cutting tea tree all day.  I beat down the holes for Pumpkins etc under the dining room window.  The Steamer changed to her summer trips today coming in at 1 pm.  I planted some more Kumera plants in the evening.
Mr Noton came in the evening with his samples & I gave him an order.

Thursday 12th   It was a fine day.   Henry was cutting tea tree all day.  I sowed 4 hills of Kuma Kuma and the remainder of Jos Greenwoods sort of Pumpkin.  I planted a few more Kumeras in the evening.
The young people came here in the evening to practice the Xmas Carols.

Friday 13th   It was a fine day.   Henry was cutting tea tree all day.  I dug the piece of ground at the back gate, planted some more Kumeras in the evening.  Killed a Sheep in the evening.

Saturday 14th   It was a fine day.   I carried in some of the Oaten hay and stored it in the shed.
Henry was cutting tea tree.
There was a meeting in the Hall in the evening of the Show Committee, all the members were present.  Mr Greenwood was elected President  &  I  Secretary.

Sunday 15th   It was a very fine day in the morning.  I read service in the hall in the afternoon , there was a very fair congregation.  The Miss Hardings came here for tea.  It rained after we came home from Church.

Monday 16th   It was a fine day.  Henry was cutting tea tree all day.  I planted a few rows of Dun Beans next to the Potatoes at the bottom of the orchard.

Tuesday 17th   It was a fine day.  Henry was cutting tea tree all day.

Wednesday 18th   It was a fine day.  We were planting Canadian Wonder Beans in Johns garden.  The Steamer came in in the evening, we all went down to the Wharf.  A large parcel of Drapery came for us from Rushbrooks, also 3 Bags of Flour from  W. J. Hursts

Thursday 19th   It was a fine day.  Henry & I continued planting  Canadian Wonder Beans in Johns garden.  The young people came here in the evening to practice Carols for Christmas Day.
