December 1894

Saturday 1st    It was a fine day.  Willie P. was working here cutting tea tree below the School.  I finished planting Pumpkins and Marrows.  Willie & Henry went fishing in the evening and caught 7 Schnappers.  There was a meeting of the Show Committee in the Hall in the evening.

Sunday 2nd  It was a fine day, but threatened for rain in the evening.  I read service in the Hall in the pm.  Jos Greenwood & Fred Pratt were here for tea.

Monday 3rd   It was a fine day.  Willie went to Tomarata to dig gum.  Henry was cutting firewood at Frearsons.  I commenced planting White Dutch Beans top side of house.

Tuesday 4th   It was a fine day.  Henry was cutting firewood at Frearsons.  I continued planting  White Dutch Beans top side of the house.

Wednesday 5th   It was a fine day.  In the morning I was fixing up the Schedule for the Show.  The Steamer came in at 1 oclock & left immediately.   Henry took the bullocks down and hauled up a Sack of Maize.

Thursday 6th   It was a fine day.  I finished planting the White Dutch Beans, 5 double rows now planted 3 ft 6 in apart.  Henry was cutting firewood for self.  Minnie and Henry went to the Band of Hope meeting at Dacre’s Claim.

Friday 7th   I was doing odd jobs.  Killed a Sheep in the evening.Went to the Library.

Saturday 8th   It was a fine day.  I was doing odd jobs and took out the meat in the morning.  In the evening afternoon went up the hill to see a Cricket Match between Warkworth & Omaha Clubs,  Warkworth beat by 44 runs.  The young people went to a dance at Pakiri in the evening.  There was to have been a meeting of the Farmers’ Association in the evening, but on account of so few turning up there was no regular meeting, but we had a good talk on the door step of the Hall.

Sunday 9th   Charlie, Maggie and the children came here for dinner.  I read service in the Hall in the afternoon, there was a pretty fair congregation.  George & Mary Anne Pratt were here for tea.

Monday 10th   It was a fine day.  Willie went to Tomarata in the morning.  Henry was cutting firewood at Frearsons.  I hoed between the Kumeras.  Made some Bordeaux mixture, & used some of it in the evening, but my spray pump did not work well.

Tuesday 11th   It was a fine day.  Henry took the 2 R Bullocks and helped Edw Brown haul out junk.  I was weeding.  There was a dance in the evening.

Wednesday 19th   It was a fine day.  Henry & I were slashing down grass in the pigs paddock in the morning.  Went down to the Steamer a good many passengers went away in her.  The young people went to Dacres’ Claim School treat in the evening.

Thursday 20th   It was a fine day.   Henry & I were hauling out firewood with the 2 R Bullocks.

Friday 21st   It was a fine day.  Henry & I were hauling out firewood with the two pair of bullocks.  The School broke up to day.  Killed a Sheep in the evening.  Walter brought Empress home from Warkworth where it has been to Hoods Entire Horse.

Saturday 22nd   Cut up the Sheep and took it out.  Did odd jobs.

Sunday 23rd   Fine day,  very dry.  The services are altered to the evening today, small congregation.

Monday 24th   Fine day.  Henry was cutting firewood at Frearsons.
I was doing odd jobs.  Jim Young and Alice were here for tea.

Tuesday 25th   Christmas Day.  A fine day.  We spent the day at home, the Steamer came in the pm.  Mr Rayner, Sarah & Fred Platt and Walter were here for tea.

Wednesday 26th   A fine day.  Maud, Willie, Henry & Minnie
went to Matakana to a Cricket match between Omaha & Matakana.  Matakana won by over 30 runs.  There was an entertainment in the evening, Henry & Minnie staid for it.  There was a picnic on the beach here, Jane & Willie went to it, also a dance in the Hall in the evening.

Thursday 27th   Wind blowing very strong from SE accompanied by showers of rain.  I was digging in the orchard when it was fine.
Killed a Sheep in the afternoon.  Walter & George Wyatt were here for tea.

Friday 28th   Wind blowing strong and threatened for rain.  All the young people went to Pakiri to a Cricket Match and a Soiree in the evening.

Saturday 29th   I was digging in the garden in the morning.  In the afternoon I went on to the Pakiri Beach.  There were showers in the afternoon.

Sunday 30th   Revd Law held service in the Hall in the afternoon.  There was a heavy shower during the service

Monday 31st   I was sticking the beans at the top side of the house.  It looked very threatening for rain.
