June 1904

Wednesday 1st   It was a fine day, but still blowing.  I was pulling tea tree in the morning.  In the afternoon I went down to the village.  Received a telegram from Noel stating that on account of the stormy weather Willie would not come until later in the week.  I ought to have got this telegram yesterday.
Jane went to Ti Point staid all night.

Thursday 2nd   Willie returned from Auckland early this morning, the black “Kawau” having landed him on her way to Mangawai.  Took the bullock down to the wharf and hauled up some Groceries from Dumpers and some black soil.  A parcel of new books came for the Library and I took them to the Library and catalogued them.  Jane returned from Ti Point in the evening.

Friday 3rd   A very showery day.  Got the Sheep up in the morning and we killed one in the afternoon.  Willie went down to the wharf to meet the “Kawau” to get a parcel that he left on board.
I went down to the Library in the evening to give the new books out, Mr Boyd was not over.

Saturday 4th   A showery day.  Willie took the mutton out in the morning and went to Ti Point in the afternoon, and on account of the weather staid all night.  I went down to the beach in the afternoon and bought 1/- worth of smoked fish at Wyatts fish curing establishment.

Sunday 5th   It was showery nearly all day.  Willie returned from Ti Point in the evening.  Revd Perry (Presbyterian) should have held service in the Hall this evening, but on account of the weather there was no service.

Monday 6th   A showery day.  Willie was cutting tea tree.  I went down to the Library in the afternoon to change my books,  also went down to the wharf to meet the “Kawau” coming from Mangawai and got Willie’s bag that he left in Auckland.

Tuesday 7th   A bit finer today, but still there were several showers.
I took a few Eggs to Harper’s store in the morning and got a saucepan, remained down until the McGregor “Kawau” came in.
Was pulling up a little tea tree later in the pm.

Wednesday 8th   It was a fine morning, but there were a few showers during the day.  The S.S. “Gael” made her first trip to Mangawai calling in here about 1 oclock.  Six persons went from here to Mangawai to be present at the welcome to the new boat. Jane went.  Willie and I went down at the wharf to see them off and Willie staid down until the “Kawau” came round, Harold, Floe & Joe being on board.   We sent two parcels up to Mrs Simpson.

Thursday 9th   It was a fine day.  I was pulling up tea tree in the front, Willie went over to Frearsons to get three of our calves out, he also helped to mend up the fence at the creek.  Jane returned from Mangawai in the evening , she enjoyed her visit very much.

Friday 10th   It was a fine day.  I was pulling tea tree all day.  Willie went down to the wharf to meet the “Kotiti“, Joe & Duncan came from town in her and Joe brought a parcel for us. I went down to the P.O and the Library in the evening.

Saturday 11th   It was a fine day, but dull, wind blowing from NE. Wille went fishing to Ti Point and returned in the evening with four schnappers.  I was pulling tea tree in the morning , in the pm I went down to the wharf to meet the “Gael” on her way to Mangawai, she landed four passengers here.

Sunday 12th   It rained nearly all day.   None of us went out anywhere.

Monday 13th   It was a fine day. We killed the pig.

Tuesday 14th   It was a dull day.  I cut up the pig and salted it.  It weighed 178 lbs.   Willie went fishing to Ti Point and staid all night. There was a Progressive Euchre Party in the evening, Jane went. There were several showers in the evening.

Wednesday 15th   It was a showery day.  I was pulling up tea tree between the showers.  Willie did not come home on account of the weather.

Thursday 16th   A showery day.  Willie returned about dinner time.
I was pulling up tea tree.

Friday 17th   It was a fine morning, but the showers were pretty frequent in the afternoon.  Willie was cutting tea tree behind the Cottage & I was pulling tea tree in the front.  I went down to the Post Office and Library in the evening.

Saturday 18th   It was a pretty fine day, only a few slight showers. Willie & I were cutting and pulling tea tree in the morning.   In the afternoon Willie went eel fishing with Albert Wyatt.  I went down to the wharf to get some grit for the fowls, to the P.O. to get the newspapers and I was pulling tea tree on the road outside Albert’s slip rails.   Joe, Minnie and children came in the evening to stay all night.

Sunday 19th   It was fine in the morning, but there was a heavy shower in the afternoon.
Minnie, Joe & the baby went home in the afternoon, but Alma staid here.

Monday 20th   A very rough day and dull. I was pulling tea tree in the front.

Tuesday 21st   It was a fine day. The Testimonial & Purse of Soverigns was to be presented to Revd R. McKinney at 2 pm.  Several went from here,  I did not know anything about it until I went down to the Store in the afternoon .
Jane rode to Ti Point to take Alma home and then she went on to Matakana to stay at the Cruickshanks.
Willie & I were cutting & pulling tea tree in the morning.

Wednesday 22nd   It was a fine day.  Willie & I were cutting & pulling tea tree all day.

Thursday 23rd   It was fine in the morning.  Willie rode to Ti Point in the morning to fish, but he came home in the evening wet though and with only one fish.  I was pulling tea tree in the morning, but it came on to rain in the afternoon and continued.

Friday 24th   It was fine in the morning and showery in the pm.
Willie & I were cutting and pulling tea tree all day.  I went down to the Post Office and Library in the evening.  There was a letter from Jack to Jane.

Saturday 25th   There were a few showers.  I was pulling tea tree all day.  Willie went down to the beach to sail his model yacht.  Jane returned from Matakana in the afternoon.

Sunday 26th   It was fine in the morning, but there were several heavy showers accompanied with thunder & lightning in the pm. Willie walked over to Ti Point to spend the day.   Jane & I did not move out of doors.

Monday 27th   It was a showery day.  Willie went fishing to Ti Point and staid over there all night.

Tuesday 28th   It was very showery all morning.  I packed a box
(8 Doz) Eggs and carried it down to the wharf in the afternoon.
A telegram was received stating that the “Gael“would not leave Auckland until 5 pm.  The “Kawau” arrived while I was down there bringing the mail.
There was a Social in the Hall in the evening, Jane went.
Willie returned home in the evening from fishing, he only caught two bundles, he sold them to the Wyatt fish company.

Wednesday 29th   It was a fine day. Willie was cutting & I was pulling tea tree all day.

Thursday 30th   It was a fine day. Willie was cutting & I was pulling tea tree all day.
