November 1900

Thursday 1st   It was a fine day.   Willie and I continued digging the piece of ground that was in Peas last year.
There was a meeting of the School Committee in the School in the evening.

Friday 2nd   It was a fine day.  I went down to the Post Office in the morning.  Willie and I were digging all day.  Jane rode to Matakana with Annie Matheson to call on Mrs Jack Cruickshank.  I went down to the Post Office and Library in the evening there was a meeting of the Art Exhibition Committee.

Saturday 3rd   It was a beautiful day.  I got up early in the morning and we finished digging the piece of ground that was in Peas last year.
I rode over to Dacres Claim with Dan Kempt to lay out some work for the Road Board, we went up to Mr Birdsalls and had lunch there and he went with us, Dan came here for tea.  Willie went fishing to Ti Point and brought home one schnapper.

Sunday 4th   It was very fine in the morning.  As Revd G. Frost was going to hold service in the Hall in the afternoon, it gave me an opportunity to go out, so I availed myself of the occasion and walked over to Ti Point to spend the day with Minnie & Joe, we went down to the beach in the afternoon intending to go over to the sand spit in Joes new boat, but the wind was blowing too strong, and he had no rowlocks to fit, so we took a walk to Lloyds Bay.  When I was walking home it came over very black and it rained steadily in the evening.

Monday 5th   It was a fine day.  I was working in the flower garden in the morning and Willie and I were digging under the Beurrie Diel and large Vicar of Winkfield pear trees in the afternoon.

Tuesday 6th   It was a very hot day.  Willie and I were digging in the orchard in the morning.  Mrs Ellis Dyer & Mrs T. Parkinson came and staid for dinner.
Willie and I went down to the wharf in the afternoon.  Took down the box of Eggs and hauled up 100 lbs Flour, 1 Coil Wire Netting and Egg Box.  There was a Social in the Hall in the evening, we went.
£2 . 2 . 6 was taken at the door.
We put the cattle that Henry Brown bought into the barley paddock, but he is not coming for them until after the Auckland Show.

Wednesday 7th   It was a fine day.   I went down to see the Steamer off in the morning.  Jane rode to Ti Point to stay with Minnie.  Willie and I were digging in the orchard.
I went down to the wharf in the afternoon to see about the shed.  Willie went fishing to Ti Point in the evening.

Thursday 8th   It was fine in the morning, but there was a steady rain in the afternoon.  Willie and I were digging between the Golden Russet Apple Trees.

Friday 9th   It was a fine day.   I went down to the Post Office in the morning and then down to the wharf to see how they were getting on with the shed.
Willie and I were digging between the Golden Russets and Beurrei Bon.  Jane returned from Ti Point in the evening.  Alec Haskell came to borrow Fanny for Mrs Haskell to go to the Social at Pakiri this evening, he had a look round the orchard.  I went down to the Post Office in the evening also to a meeting of the Library Trustees.

Saturday 10th   It was a fine day.   Willie rode to Ti Point to fish, he brought home 5 Schnappers, and he gave some away to Mrs Neeley and Minnie.
I was digging in the orchard.
Walter came and spent the evening.

Sunday 11th  It was a fine day.   I read service in the Hall in the afternoon, there was only a small congregation.  Miss Hutchinson came to spend the afternoon and evening.

Monday 12th   It was a fine day.  Willie and I finished digging the piece of ground round the Golden Russet Apples.  The “Rose Casey” came in about 9 oclock pm.  We all went down to see her arrive.

Tuesday 13th   It was fine in the morning, but there were several heavy showers in the afternoon.  Mr Sim came in the morning to get me to witness his signature.  I carried a box of Eggs down to the wharf in the pm.  several persons went by both steamers up to the Auckland show .

Wednesday 14th   It was a very squally day accompanied by frequent showers of rain.  Willie and I commenced digging below the closet and worked down by the fence and round the young Peach trees.

Thursday 15th   It was a fine day.   We continued digging between the young Peach trees below the house.  Jane helped us in the morning, she rode over to Ti Point in the afternoon.  Dan Kempt called after dinner and I went down to the wharf with him.  The “Rob Roy” called in on her way to Auckland, Dan, Jim Dunning and Mr Harper went up in her to the Auckland Show, there were a great number of passengers aboard.

Friday 16th   There was a misty rain all morning, we were not able to work out of doors.  Willie went down to the Store to get some wheat and to post a letter.  It cleared up in the afternoon and we were digging between the young Peach trees below the house.  Jane returned from Ti Point in the evening.

Saturday 17th   It rained heavily last night and it has gone deeply into the ground, we were hoeing and breaking up the lumps on the piece of ground I am going to plant in Maize.  It was showery all day, expecially in the afternoon, but it cleared up about 4.30 pm.
Willie went fishing to Ti Point in the afternoon and caught two scnappers.

Sunday 18th   There were several showers during the day.  I went down to the village in the afternoon, but there was no service.

Monday 19th   The weather is improving, there were only a few showers.  Willie and I commenced digging in the Farm  Orchard.  We commenced at the slip rails under the Orleans Plums.

Tuesday 20th   It was a fine day.   Willie and I were digging in the farm orchard in the morning.  Minnie came over in the morning, had dinner with us and then went down to the wharf and went round to Ti Point in the “Kapanui”.  We took the bullock down to the wharf with a box of Eggs and hauled a Sack of Maize and 2 Wool Packs up.
I went up to Handbys to arrange with him and Dan Kempt about the Concert at the Flower Show, I had tea there.  Mr Neeley and Bob were also there for tea, they had been helping Mr Handby shear.
It looked very much like rain in the evening.

Wednesday 21st   It was a showery day.  Mr Sim came in the morning for me to witness his signature.  John Wyatt came to do up our dining room, so we cleared the room out.  Willie and I went down to the village in the afternoon to get some things from the store and also some scrim from Walter Wyatt.  There was a meeting of the Hall Committee in the Library in the evening.

Thursday 22nd   It was a very dull and misty day, very threatening, but it did not rain.  John Wyatt came again today and was calsimining   the ceiling of the dining room.
Willie and I were digging in the farm orchard both morning and afternoon, but we only put in about 5 hours.

Friday 23rd   It was a fine day.   I went down to the Post Office in the morning to post some letters.  I took the bullock and hauled up a Sack of Maize & Egg box.  Afterwards we hauled two loads of firewood from the front.  We lent John Salt,  Empress to take to Warkworth with the mail.   Mrs John Cruickshank  & Miss Cruickshank rode over from Matakana to spend the day.
John Wyatt was working here in the dining room, he staid all night.
I went down to the  Library in the evening.
Willie and I were digging in the farm orchard in the afternoon.

Saturday 24th   It was a fine day.    John Wyatt was working here again today in the dining room.  Willie went fishing to Ti Point and brought home a few fish.  I was digging in the farm orchard, I finished the side at the far Orleans Plum tree and commenced the other side, (in the morning).  There was a meeting of the Road Board in the afternoon.  Dan Kempt returned with me for tea, and we went down to the Hall again in the evening to make arrangements about the catering for the Concert.

Sunday 25th   It was a fine day.   I read service in the Hall in the afternoon.  Jane rode over to Mr Sims in the afternoon.

Monday 26th   It was a fine day.   John Wyatt was working here.
I took the bullock down to the wharf in the morning to haul some socket pipes for the Road Board.
Willie and I were weeding the strawberry bed in the morning, and we were digging in the farm orchard in the afternoon.  Jane rode to Matakana in the evening as she is going an excursion with the Cruickshanks to morrow in the “Kotiti” to Waiwera.

Tuesday 27th   It was a beautiful day.   John Wyatt continued papering in the dining room.
We were paring the weeds off the strawberry bed and the front path.  Packed a box of Eggs and hauled it down to the wharf in the afternoon and hauled up a box of Groceries, empty egg box and some gravel.

Wednesday 28th   There were a few slight showers otherwise it was a very fine day.  Jane returned from Matakana in time for dinner, she enjoyed herself very much.  Willie and I were cleaning the strawberries and also the path to the front gate.  John Wyatt finished the dining room in the evening and went home.  Wilfred Torkington called in the evening.

Thursday 29th   It was a fine day.   I was cleaning the windows and the floor of the dining room and hanging the pictures.

Friday 30th   It was a fine day.   I went down to the Post Office in the morning, also to the wharf to give directions at the wharf in connection with the Road Board.  I was working in the flower garden.  Willie and I went over to W. Frearsons and brought home a Ewe and Lamb of ours that were in his place, Walter had just commenced shearing.
Henry Brown came in the morning and took away the 3 steers he bought of me.  He gave me a cheque for £9 . 10 . 0 in payment for them.
I went down to the Post Office and the Library in the evening.
