Tuesday 1st It was a very fine day. Wind SW. In the morning I went down to the village to post my quarterly returns, also went down to the wharf to see how they were getting on with the new wharf. When I got home my back was so bad I had to lie down and had to rest the remainder of the day. The late Mrs R. Knaggs was buried in this cemetery, Willie & Grace attended to represent the family, Revd O. Blundell officiated at the grave, there was a large attendance to testify their respect & sympathy.
Wednesday 2nd It was a beautiful day, wind SW. Willie was digging round the young Diamond plum trees at the bottom of the orchard, late in the pm he took the Eggs down to the wharf. and he hauled up 1 Sk Sharps, 1 Sk Bran.
As my back was pretty bad I painted the studs and rafters of the summer house.
Thursday 3rd There seems a change in the weather. There were a few slight showers, but it was very hot between the showers.
I was working at the summer house, I painted the wall plates and the rafters a second time.
Willie commenced planting Potatoes in the pigs paddock.
Friday 4th It was a beautiful day. Willie finished planting Potatoes in the pigs paddock.
I was doing odd jobs , getting wood, weeding round the young rose trees near the WC, cutting grass on the path in the front garden and digging between some of the plants.
In the evening I went down for the mail and attended the Library. There was a dance in the Hall but Willie & Grace did not go and I did not stay.
Saturday 5th It was a very fine day. I was helping Willie finish plant Potatoes near the back gate the first thing in the morning, after that Willie went fishing to Ti Point, I was working at the summer house, I was making the lattice work one side of the doorway, and then I painted the front part a second time. In the pm I went down to the wharf to get the meat from Mangawai, had a look at the men working at the wharf.
Grace went to call on Mrs Glass, Dorothy and Edit came and staid all night. Willie returned from Ti Point late in the evening having had tea at Joes, bringing several large schnappers.
Sunday 6th It was a fine day ‘tho dull, the wind has changed to the NW. Revd Paris held held service in the hall in the afternoon, I attended, there was a very good congregation, Mr P. gave us an excellent sermon, Mr Glass presided at the organ and after the service he played the Dead March out of respect to the late Mrs R. J. Knaggs.
Monday 7th There was a misty rain nearly all day. I was painting the underneath side of the roof of the summer house with white paint.
Willie fixed the rein rail on the sulky &c.
Tuesday 8th It was a dull day, wind got round to the SE, but we only got slight rain , after breakfast I went down to the village to post some letters.
I loosened round the new Rose plants near the summer house, applied Basic Slag and mulched them with horse manure. Fixed the trellis each side of the doorway of the summer house .
Willie fixed oilcloth on the floor of the sulky and was digging in the orchard. He attended a Show Committee meeting in the evening.
Wednesday 9th It was dull, and some part of the day there was a misty rain. Edgar and Jack Dunning came up in the morning and I gave Jack some flower plants to take to his mother.
I planted just below the house, 11 cauliflower and 8 early york cabbage plants, also 4 rows white schalotts. Willie was digging in the orchard, and in the evening he hauled box of Eggs to wharf.
Grace attended a meeting in the Hall in the pm to arrange about a Xmas tree.
Thursday 10th There was a very heavy mist last night, more like a rain and all vegetation was very wet this morning, and the mist hung about all day coming over thick several times, the sun being very hot between whiles.
Willie was digging in the orchard all day. I was working at the summer house. Flo’ called in the afternoon.
Friday 11th It was a very fine day. I went down to the village before breakfast to post some letters, I planted some cauliflower plants that Flo’ brought yesterday, after that I was working at the summer house.
Willie was digging in the orchard.
I went down for the mail in the evening and attended the Library.
Saturday 12th It was a very fine day, wind from SW which blew very strong in the pm.
In the morning I went down to the wharf to get the meat from Mangawai.
I was working in the flower garden all day. Willie was digging in the orchard.
Sunday 13th It was a very fine day. Mr & Mrs Glass came here for dinner, we all went down to the Hall in the afternoon to service.
Revd R. A. Macdonald officiated, there was a good congregation, Mr Glass played the organ in Mrs Carrs absence. Collection 11/8
Mr & Mrs Glass returned with us for tea, also Mrs J. C. Wyatt & Eddie.
Monday 14th It was a fine day. Willie was working in the orchard all day. I got wood in the morning, after that I was working at the summer house. Mrs G. Wyatt came in the afternoon and I fixed up her application for a widows pension.
I went down to the village late in the pm to get the mail that came by the “Kawau“, carried up a bag of sand.
Tuesday 15th It was a fine day, but rather dull in the morning.
Henry Browns sale of live stock to day as he has sold his farm to a Mr Hoult. Willie was digging in the orchard all day.
I fixed the lattice work to one of the windows in the summer house, and then I took it down and painted it.
Wednesday 16th It was a fine day, but the wind was blowing very strong from the N in the afternoon and looked as if we would have some rain.
I was fixing lattice work to the other window of the summer house and then I took it down and painted the bars white.
Willie was digging in the orchard in the morning and in the afternoon he took the Eggs down to the wharf and got the horse shod. I went down to the wharf and got a bag of sand which Willie hauled up for me. Mr Joseph Greenwood came up by the Steamer.
Thursday 17th It was a very fine day. Willie was digging in the orchard all day. In the morning I got firewood, then I sowed 2 rows White Stone Turnips just below the house, in the afternoon I fixed the lattice work to one window of the summer house & again painted the bars, afterwards digging in the flower garden.
Friday 18th It was a fine day. Willie was digging in the orchard all day. In the morning I cut a lot of firewood, then I fixed the lattice work to the other window. Sowed a row of sweet peas near the closet. Painted one side of the summer house outside.
In the evening I went for the mail & attended the Library, there was a dance in the Hall to raise funds to purchase toys for the Xmas trees, there was a very large attendance, all of us went & Jane & Jim were over. Mrs Ashworth played for the dances and therefore there was very good music, I was playing bridge, Jane & Hector returned with us and staid the night.
Saturday 19th There were a few slight showers during the day. We were not up very early. Willie was digging in the orchard all day. I painted the underneath sides of the roof of the summer house a second time.
In the pm I went down to the steamer to get the meat, also carried up a bag of sand.
There was a party at John Wyatts to celebrate the first birthday of Alfies twin children. Jane & Grace went, from there Jane & Hector went to old Mrs Dunnings to stay the night. Agnes returned with Grace & staid the night.
Sunday 20th A very showery day. We took the sulky out for the first time. Called at Old Mrs Dunnings for Jane, but a heavy shower coming in Mrs Dunning invited us in to have dinner, in the afternoon it seemed much finer, so Willie, Grace and Jane proceeded on to Jims place, but I came home, and later in the afternoon it poured with rain again, Willie & Grace returned home just before dark, the buggy got a good deal splashed with mud.
Monday 21st It was a fine day with the exception of a pretty smart shower in the morning, the wind has changed to the S. Willie was digging in the orchard all day. After breakfast I got firewood , then I painted the outside of the summer house and was digging in the flower garden.
Tuesday 22nd Some very heavy showers during the day and in the evening. After breakfast I went down to the village to get the mail, post a letter& get some paint, went down to see how they were getting on with the new wharf, carried up a bag of sand. after I got home I got a barrow full of manure and made a start to plant some peas, but on account of heavy showers I had to knock off. In the afternoon I painted the underside of the roof of the summer house for the third time. Willie was digging in the orchard between the showers.
Walter Frearson & family left by the “Kawau” this evening. He is going to Henderson where he has bought a place.
Wednesday 23rd It was a showery day. I got two loads of firewood from the other side of the hill. I was painting the outside of the summer house. Mr Roose called and staid for dinner, I gave him an order.
I went down to the village in the pm to get the mail. Willie was digging in the orchard and late in the pm he took the eggs down to the wharf and hauled up some goods that came by the Steamer.
Thursday 24th It was a fine day, with the exception of one shower, wind from S and very cold.
Willie was digging in the orchard all day. I finished painting the outside of the summer house. Afterwards I planted the following vegetables below the house. 1 row of Lettuce, 2 Do Parsnips, 1 row Strategem Peas.
Friday 25th It was a fine day, but cold and windy. I dug one of the borders near the front steps. I felt so unwell and my back was so bad that I had to come in and lie down.
Mrs Glass called in the afternoon.
Willie was digging in the orchard all day, in the evening he went down for the mail and attended the Library for me.
Saturday 26th It was a fine day, but the wind was blowing very cold from the S.
My back was so bad that I did not get up until the middle of the day.
After breakfast Grace went down to the village to post letters and to get the meat from the steamer. Willie was digging in the orchard.
Sunday 27th It was a beautiful day. Willie, Grace & I drove over in the sulky to spend the day with Jim & Jane, we found Minnie, the baby & Eileen there so there was quite a family gathering, we all had dinner there and afterwards went to Mr Blundells service in the Hall, we did not stay at Jims for tea, but came away early.
While we were having tea at home Joe Torkington came in and informed us that Mr Lloyd had died suddenly late this afternoon,
this is the third death on Ti Point within the last few months.
Monday 28th It was a beautiful day. After breakfast I went down to the village met Joe Torkington & Alf Gravatt who were in the P.O ringing up Constable Johnston, they had an answer stating that there would have to be an inquest and post mortem on Mr Lloyd tomorrow morning at 9.30 and the funeral at 2 pm.
I planted some Pansies near the summer house & a clump of Gladioli in the diamond bed, fixed up the fence one side of the summer house and commenced digging the border. Willie was digging the orchard all day.
Tuesday 29th It was a very fine day. Willie was digging in the orchard all day. I finished digging the border near the summer house. In the afternoon I went to Mr Lloyds funeral, I started to walk but Willie Dunning overtook me and gave me a lift in his waggon , also brought me home, there were not very many at the funeral , Revd Paris officiated at the grave.
Wednesday 30th It was fine during the day, but late in the afternoon it set in a steady rain which will do a great deal of good as the ground is very dry with the winds we had last week.
Willie was digging in the orchard all day. In the morning I was digging out oxalis bulbs near the rustic arch, afterwards I was breaking up the ground that I dug up yesterday near the summer house, but I had to come in the house and lie down as my back was so bad. In the afternoon I went down to the village to get the mail.
Thursday 31st It was a very fine day. Willie was digging in the orchard all day. I went down to the village in the morning to post some letters, took a bunch of roses to the engineer of the “Kawau”, got the mail. My back was pretty bad and I was not able to much.
