Sunday 1st It was a beautiful day. I read service in the Hall in the afternon, there was a pretty fair congregation. I went up to Mr Walters after church and had tea there. Mr & Mrs Handby came there in the evening. Henry had returned to the flat before I returned home.
Monday 2nd It was a fine day but rather windy, wind from N.
We finished sowing grass seed in the barley paddock in the morning. In the afternoon we were digging in the garden for Oates. Maud went to Haskells in the pm.
Tuesday 3rd It was a fine day but very windy and threatening for rain. We continued digging for Oates where the tall beans were growing. There was a dance in the Hall in the evening in aid of the Cricket Club, Willie came over from Pakiri and he and Maud went to it.
Wednesday 4th Willie staid here last night and left for Pakiri early this morning. It was very showery in the morning and we were unable to work out of doors. The Steamer came in early in the afternoon and left again as soon as she got her cargo in.
Thursday 5th We continued digging in the garden for Oates. We got the Sheep up in the evening. The wind is blowing very strong and it threatens very much for rain.
Friday 6th It rained last night and most of to day. We could not clean the Sheep so had to let them out. We killed a Wether in the afternoon. Henry came home from the flat in the morning as it was too wet.
Saturday 7th We hauled firewood from the hill in the morning. The annual meeting of Ratepayers was to be held at Noon but was adjourned as the Books had not returned. Willie came home in the evening.
Sunday 8th It was a fine day though rather windy. Revd S. Griffith preached in the Hall in the afternoon. Mr & Mrs Handby came here for tea and spent the evening.
Monday 9th It was a fine day. Willie left early this morning for his work at Pakiri. We finished digging the old Strawberry bed in the morning. In the afternoon we continued mending up the fence going up to the gate. Mr & Mrs Walter came for tea and spent the evening.
Tuesday 10th It was a fine day. We continued working at the fence. There was a dance in the Hall in the evening to wind up the monthly dance, Miss Pratt & Sarah were over, Willie also was over for it. Willie staid all night.
Wednesday 11th It was dull in the morning, but it turned out a fine day. Willie did not return to Pakiri this morning as he did not feel well. John and I went down to the Wharf in the morning and hauled up 1 Sack Grass Seed, 1 Sack Sharps and 2 Sacks Bran, we also hauled 2 Posts from the farm. We continued working at the fence in the afternoon.
Thursday 12th It was a fine day. John rode to Pakiri in the morning to tell Ellis Dyer that Willie was not well. We commenced to feed the Fowls with soft food this morning . viz 2 beef tins full of Bran & 1 of Sharps mixed with 1 beef tin full of warm water.
We sowed Dun Oates in the old strawberry bed and dug them in.
Henry returned from the flat for good, he sold his Gum at Cruickshanks Store at Big Omaha this afternoon.
Friday 13th John & I continued mending the fence. Henry went to Big Omaha with Robert Wyatt to bring the boat round, they were fishing at the Maori Point , Henry brought home 6 fish. There was a very heavy shower of rain in the evening. I went to the Library, there was a meeting of the Committee.
Saturday 14th It was a showery day. John and I finished the fence up to the gate. Henry went to Matakana to get paid for his gum. There was a meeting of the Show Committee in the Hall in the evening, Mr Greenwood was appointed Chairman & I was appointed Secretary.
Mr H. Brown staid here all night.
Sunday 15th It was a fine day but dull. Read service in the Hall in the afternoon. There was a fair congregation.
Monday 16th Willie left early this morning for Pakiri . John and Henry rode to Warkworth, Henry to go by the Rose Casey to Auckland and John brought the horses home. I was grubbing up the bramble against the fence we lately mended, also raked all the rubbish from under the fence and burned it in heaps.
Tuesday 17thWednesday 18th The boys were hauling for Jos Wyatt, Harper & Mr Harvey in the morning. I was grubbing up the briais and burning off the far side . John & Henry dug up the remainder of the Kumeras in the afternoon.
Thursday 19th It was a fine day, but dull. We commenced the fence up the hill to divide off the paddock. It rained very heavy in the evening.
Friday 20th It was a fine day. We commenced ploughing the top side of the house.
Saturday 21st John went to Warkworth on his horse. We continued fencing the top side of the house. Willie came home in the evening.
Sunday 22nd It was a fine day. In the morning I went down to John Wyatts to see old Nelson who is very ill. Willie & Maud went to Tee Point to spend the day with Mr & Mrs D. Knaggs. I read service in the afternoon, there were very few present.
Monday 23rd It rained heavily last night and nearly all to day.
Tuesday 24th Very heavy showers in the morning, but it was finer in the afternoon. Willie & Henry went shooting, but the only shot 3 pheasants.
Packed 4 Cases of Apples and John hauled them down to the Wharf with the young steers.
The Steamer did not come in.
Wednesday 25th Willie left for Pakiri early in the morning. We cut off some rata blocks to make fencing rollers. There were several showers during the day. The Steamer came in in the afternoon and went out immediately.
Thursday 26th It was a fine day. We mended up the farm orchard fence in the morning as the bullocks are getting in.
In the afternoon we continued putting in the posts of the fence going up to the stockyard.
Friday 27th It was a fine day with the exception of a few showers. In the morning the boys hauled some goods for Mr Harper and in the afternoon they continued putting in posts. I put a strut to the straining post on the top of the hill and in the pm I went down to John Wyatts to see Nelson who is sinking fast.
Saturday 28th It was a fine day. We finished putting in the posts of the fence, I put in the strut to the straining post near the stockyard.
Willie came home in the evening.
Sunday 29th It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon. There was a pretty fair congregation. Mr Pratt came up here for tea after the service. I went over to John Wyatts in the evening to sit up with Nelson.
Monday 30th Poor Nelson died at 2 oclock this morning. He was buried at 4 oclock this afternoon, I read the service at the grave. Willie & Henry went shooting to Pakiri, but they only got 3 pheasants.
Tuesday 31st Willie went shooting to Big Omaha but he did not shoot anything. We commenced putting on the wire on the fence. The Steamer came in in the evening but she went out again, as there is such a swell in the harbour she was knocking against the wharf.
