Wednesday 1st The Steamer did not come last night or this morning on account of the wind. It rained last night a good part of to day. I was making rollers in the shed.
Thursday 2nd A thick mist this morning but it cleared off and turned out a fine day. I was making rollers & pegs in the morning, and was stapling on the wire in the afternoon.
Friday 3rd I was stapling on wire in the afternoon. It came on to rain in the evening and poured with rain all night.
Saturday 4th The ground was very wet after the rain last night.
I was making rollers & pegs in the shed. Henry did not come home.
Sunday 5th It was a fine day. Willie P. came for dinner & brought us a nice piece of beef. I read service in the afternoon. There were not many present.
Monday 6th It was a fine day but rather misty. The girls returned to School after the mid-winter holidays.
John & I were sighting & cleaning the line between the School reserve & our land, & I finished stapling all the wire on the other fence.
Tuesday 7th It was a fine day. We put in the straining post and commenced putting up the fence between the School Reserve and our land. The Steamer came in the evening bringing a lot of passengers, it was very rough and she went out same evening.
Wednesday 8th It was showery in the morning. John was hauling for E.J.H & T.W.K. I was working at the fence.
Thursday 9th It was a fine day, though cold morning & evening. We were working at the fence. Sent a registered letter to C & H containing £5 and ordering 300 lbs Flour, 1 Sack Potatoes, 2 Coils Wire.
Friday 10th John hauled for E.J.H & AH. in the morning. We helped Alec Haskell mend up the fence between his land & ours in the afternoon, afterwards we went on erecting the fence.
Saturday 11th We continued erecting the fence in the morning.
In the afternoon John went shooting, I took out a lot of posts and carried them to the line of fence. Henry returned from Pakiri in the evening to spend the Sunday.
Sunday 12th It was a fine day. Willie P spent the day here. I read service in the afternoon. I went up to Mr Walter’s & had tea. Henry returned to Pakiri.
Monday 13th We continued erecting the fence next the School Reserve. It commenced to rain in the afternoon & continued all evening and poured with rain all night.
Tuesday 14th It was a fine day. We were working at the fence next School reserve. The Steamer came in the evening but went out again. It came on to rain in the evening and poured with rain all night.
Wednesday 15th John was hauling goods for E. J. Harper and Flour & Potatoes for us. I was working at the fence. John came in the afternoon with the saw & we cleared the line.
Thursday 16th It rained all last night and there were several showers to day. We were working at the fence.
Friday 17th It was a fine day. We were working at the fence next School reserve. We measured the boundary between W. Frearson & us. From creek to creek, the distance was 8 Chains. My half share will be 4 Chains and my end will be from the second creek up to the ridge. T & J. Wyatt also measured the line between theirs & my land, the distance being 9 Chains & 22 Links, my half shared being 4 Chains 61 Links and my half share will be from the second creek up the hill, so that my two portions come together.
Saturday 18th It was a fine day. We finished putting in the posts next the School reserve. Henry came home in the evening.
Sunday 19th It was a fine day with the exception of a few showers. Willie P. came and spent the day. Henry returned to Pakiri in the pm. I read service in the afternoon and went down to Mr Harpers in the evening to see the little girl that was burnt.
Monday 20th It was a fine day. We got the loan of a pair of bullocks from Charlie and John hauled out posts with them and our bullocks. I laid the straining post, rolled up the old wire and put some of the barbed wire on the fence. I went to tea to Mr Walter’s & spent the evening.
Tuesday 21st It was a showery day. We killed the Pig.
Wednesday 22nd John was hauling for the Mrs Dunning and T.W.K. I cut up the Pig in the morning it weighed 250 lbs. We were sawing off some Post lengths in the afternoon.
Thursday 23rd It was fine day, but very cold. We were splitting posts on the flat for the fence between our place and Frearson’s.
Friday 24th It was a fine day. John hunted up Charlie’s bullock as they had got out and gone to Point Rodney, he hauled posts down to Matheson’s.
Saturday 25th A fine day. We put in the strut at the lower School Reserve corner. We took 7 Sheep out of Mr Neeley’s. We sighted the line between our place & Frearsons & put in 3 posts. Henry did not come home this week.
Sunday 26th It was a fine day. Willie P. came and spent the day.
I read service in the pm.
Monday 27th The wind has changed round to the E. It threatened for rain but we did not have any. John was hauling out posts with our bullocks & Charlie’s. I was putting in posts up the slip.
Tuesday 28th John mended the sleigh & I trimmed some posts, but it rained so we had to come home. The Steamer did not come.
Wednesday 29th Wind blowing strong from E & showery. We sawed off some firewood logs on the hill & I made some rollers.
Thursday 30th It was a fine day. We were fencing up the slip.
Friday 31st It rained heavily last night and it was blowing very strong to day from the S. It was showery in the morning. I bored some fencing rollers. In the afternoon we went down to the Koroa creek and squared and bored a straining post. Maggie was delivered of a son this morning.
