Sunday 1st It was a showery day. Miss Emily Cruickshank came and Jane rode part of the way home with her. Willie went to Ti Point. I called at Mr C. Gravatts in the afternoon and staid for tea.
Monday 2nd It was a very fine day. Willie and I were picking fruit all day. We hauled 12 Cases down to the “Kapui” in the evening.
Tuesday 3rd It was a very fine day. Willie and I were picking fruit all day. We hauled 12 Cases down to the “Claymore” in the evening.
Wednesday 4th It was a very fine day. Willie and I were picking fruit all day.
Thursday 5th It was a fine day. We picked a few cases of fruit in the morning and then we hauled 14 Cases of Fruit down to the wharf to go away by the “Kotiti” which came in place of the “Kawau“. We were picking Orleans Plums again in the afternoon.
Friday 6th It was a fine day. I went down to the Post Office after breakfast, also to the wharf to measure some road metal. We were picking plums for the remainder of the day. We hauled 12 Cases of Orleans Plums down to the wharf in the afternoon to send away by the “Kawau“. She was late before she came so I remained down until the mail arrived.
Saturday 7th It was a fine day. We picked 6 Cases of Orleans Plums in the morning. Willie went fishing to Ti Point, but only caught a few small fish.
Frank Pratt called in the afternoon and staid for tea. I picked 2 Cases Orleans Plums in the afternoon. Charlie Gravatt came in the evening to register the death of his Mother.
Sunday 8th It was a fine day. Tottie and Ernest Cruickshank came to spend the day, Jane rode part of the way home with them in the evening.
Monday 9th It was a beautiful day. Willie, Jane and I were picking Orleans Plums all day, we hauled them down to the wharf in the evening to go away in the “Kapui“. We had used up all our Cases so Walter Frearson lent me 1 Doz which we hauled up.
Tuesday 10th It was a very fine day. We got up early and were picking Orleans Plums all morning. We hauled them down to the wharf in the afternoon to go in the “Claymore“. We sent 10 Half Standards Cases of Orleans, 12 Long Cases Orleans and 1 H. S. Case of Peaches to Donald & Edenborough, also 1 mixed Case of Fruit to Noel Wallace. Our Cases that we expected did not arrive, and being quite out Mr Greenwood lent me 25.
Wednesday 11th It was a fine day. Bob Rogers came to help us pick Orleans Plums. We were picking all day, we had filled all the Cases that I had borrowed of Mr Greenwood, so I borrowed 6 Cases of Mrs T. Wyatt which we filled, making 31.
Thursday 12th It was a fine day. We hauled the 31 Cases down to the wharf after breakfast, it was the “Kapui” this trip. She took what fruit that was waiting for her here, also several sacks Tall Fescue, she left here punctually at 8.30 am.
Bob Rogers came again to help us pick Orleans Plums, we were all picking plums the remainder of the day, we picked 16 Cases, this makes 120 Cases of Orleans already picked.
The “Kapui” brought me 100 Cases yesterday afternoon so we hauled up a load this morning. Jane rode to Ti Point this evening to stay all night at Minnies.
Friday 13th It was a fine day. We hauled the 16 Cases of Orleans Plums down to the wharf in the morning . The “Kotiti” came instead of the “Kawau“. We also sent a case of mixed fruit to Mrs Simpson. We hauled up the remainder of the fruit cases. I went down to the P.O. in the evening.
Saturday 14th It was a fine day. Willie went fishing to Ti Point. Jane came home from Ti Point in the morning. I hauled 7 Cases of Orleans down to the wharf in the morning to go by the “Rob Roy“. The people that went to Waipu for the gathering of the Clans returned by her. There was a Cricket Match in Charlies paddock between Takatu and Omaha Clubs, Omaha won. Miss Williams came to our place and staid all night.
Sunday 15th It was a fine day. Willie and I went to Ti Point to spend the day, Willie rode and I walked. Jane and Miss Williams went down to the village in the morning and Jane went home with Miss Williams in the afternoon intending to go to Mr Latter’s service at Matakana in the evening, but at Big Omaha she heard that the service was put off so she returned home.
Monday 16th It was a fine day. We were picking Orleans all day.
Tuesday 17th We were picking a little fruit in the morning. I took the Eggs down to the Store in the morning and we took the Fruit down to the wharf for the “Claymore“, but unfortunately she got aground and we had to stay until the evenings tide.
Wednesday 18th It was a fine day. We were picking fruit all day.
Thursday 19th It was a fine day. We hauled 13 Cases of Fruit down to the wharf to go away in the “Kawau“. In the afternoon we picked the remainder of the Bon Cretien Pears, 13 Cases in all from one tree. Jane rode over to Ti Point in the evening bringing a schnapper with her.
Friday 20th It was a fine day. We started to go over to the E.R. to winnow the grass seed, but we thought there was too much wind, so we came home, did odd jobs. I went down for the mail in the evening. We killed a Sheep (Ewe).
Saturday 21st It was a fine day. Willie rode Ti Point to fish and he brought home a large schnapper. We lent Empress to Miss McKenzie to go to the Tennis match at Big Omaha. There was a meeting of the Road Board in the pm. The next meeting to be this day month, viz 21st March.
Sunday 22nd The weather was threatening for rain in the morning, but it kept fine. Mr & Mrs Jack Cruickshank drove over, Mrs C. to stay with us, but Jack returned home in the evening.
Mrs Archie Dunning & Mrs J. Findlayson from Waipu came to spend the afternoon. It rained steadily in the evening. Revd G. T. Marshall (Wesleyan) held service in the Hall in the afternoon, but none of us attended on account of the visitors here.
Monday 23rd It was a showery day. We picked most of the Elberta Peaches in the farm orchard, packed 2 Cases to send away. Hauled some Fruit down to the wharf in the evening, heard afterwards that the “Kapanui“came instead of the “Kapui“.
Tuesday 24th The weather does not look very promising for the Show tomorrow the wind is from the E is very close and hot. Willie hauled the exhibits down to the Hall in the evening.
Wednesday 25th The weather was very thick and misty in the morning, but it turned out a tolerably fine day, only it was extremely close. I was down early in the morning placing my exhibits out.
The “Claymore” and the “Kapanui” arrived from Auckland about 12 oclock bringing the judges and about 70 excursionists, Noel Wallace and George Simpson were among the number and they came up here for lunch, also Jack Cruickshank. We all went down to the Show in the afternoon, there were a great number of people present, the exhibits were very good outside also those in the Hall, but not so numerous as in other years. We returned home for tea and our party was increased by Harold Torkington, Miss Blanche Dunning and Misses Lina & Emily Cruickshank. We all went to the Concert and Dance in the evening. Noel and George returned to Auckland in the “Kapanui“, I went down to see them off. The Miss Cruickshanks staid all night , but Jack went home.
Thursday 26th We did not do much after our exertions yesterday. There were several showers during the day. Mr Matthew Kirkbride Mr H. R. called called here in the pm and staid for tea. I was very glad to see my old friend & neighbour, I walked part of the way home with him (he was staying at Mathesons) and then I called in at Mrs T. Wyatts to get some fruit Cases. I heard that she and others were going to Mangawai Show in the “Kawau” which was going to call in.
Friday 27th It rained nearly all last night and there were several showers during the morning. I took the bullock down in the morning and got some long cases from Mrs T. Wyatt, we picked 12 long cases of Golden Drop Plums and I hauled them down to the wharf in the evening. The “Rob Roy” was expected in and the shed was full of fruit and there were several passengers waiting to go away. I hauled up some cases that were on the wharf for me.
Saturday 28th It was a fine day. I went down with Charlie to meet Tenetohi at the Goat Island to try and get a piece of land from him for a road, so as to put a bridge across the creek for Alex Matheson.
I went down to the Store in the afternoon to settle my account.
Mrs Jack Cruickshank went to spend the afternoon at Mrs C. Wyatts. Willie went fishing to Maori point and brought home several rock cod.
