Wednesday 1st It was a fine day. Willie and I were cutting tea tree in the front all day. Jane went to Mrs Gravatts in the afternoon to see Mr Harding who came up in the Steamer yesterday afternoon. There was a choir practice in the Hall in the evening.
Thursday 2nd It was a fine day. I went to Mr Frearsons in the morning to witness his signature re’ his old age pension.
Willie went out in a boat with Charlie Gravatt fishing. I was cutting tea tree in front. Mabel Wyatt and Bella Mills were here for tea.
Friday 3rd It was a beautiful day. Willie and I were cutting tea tree in the front all day. There was a social in the Pakiri Hall in the evening , a good many from here went, but none of us went. I went to the Post and Library in the evening.
Saturday 4th It was a fine day. Willie went fishing to Ti Point. I was cutting tea tree in the morning. The annual Meeting of Ratepayers was held in the Road Board Office in the afternoon.
Jane rode to Matakana in the pm to stay at the Alic Cruickshanks.
Sunday 5th It was a fine day. Joe and Minnie came over to spend the day, Willie and I had to entertain them as Jane is away. Revd G. Frost preached in the Hall in the pm. We all went.
Monday 6th It was a fine day. I went down to help paint the Hall, there were also there Messrs R. & A. Matheson , T. Handby and Dan Kempt.
Tuesday 7th It was a fine day. I was down helping paint the Hall. The same persons were there, with the exception that A. Matheson was absent and R. Matheson went home at dinner time.
Wednesday 8th It was a fine day. I was down helping paint the Hall. A. Matheson, T. Handby & D. Kempt were there, Dan came up to tea and went with us to the choir practice in the evening.
Thursday 9th It was a fine day. I was down helping paint the hall. A. Matheson, Joe Greenwood, T. Handby & Dan Kempt were helping. Dan came up and staid all night.
Friday 10th It was a dull day and threatened for rain in the evening . I was down helping paint the hall. A. Matheson, Joe Greenwood, T. Handby & Dan Kempt were helping. Most of us waited down until after the mail came in and then came home.
Saturday 11th It was dull in the morning and there were several smart showers. I was down at the Hall helping to paint, there were also there T. Handby and Dan Kempt, we had to stop work several times on account of the rain, but Mr Handby fixed the windows inside and I numbered some of the books in the Library.
Sunday 12th There were a few showers during the day, but between the showers it was very fine. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon, there were only 9 present.
Monday 13th It was a perfect day, so sunny and warm & calm. We were sowing grass seed on the burnt patches in the front, and burning off heaps near the cross roads.
Tuesday 14th It was a wet day. I took the Eggs down to the Store in the morning. Went down in the afternoon to meet the Steamers, Dan McKenzie and his bride came up in the Rose. Jane sent 8 lbs butter to the Steward of the Rose.
Wednesday 15th It was a fine day. We dug all the Kumeras in the morning, in the pm Willie was cutting tea tree and I was digging for a flower garden. There was a choir practice in the Hall in the evening. We went down, but I had to come home as I did not feel well.
Thursday 16th It was a fine day. Jane rode over to Ti Point and staid all night. I went down to the Hall to help paint. Joe Greenwood, T. Handby, A. Matheson, & D. Kempt were also there. Dan came up and staid all night with us.
Friday 17th It looked very black first thing in the morning, but it turned out a fine day. Went down to the Hall to help paint, the same were there as yesterday.
Saturday 18th It was a rather showery day. We killed a Sheep in the morning. Willie rode to Ti Point to fish, but he did not catch any. A. Matheson & T. Handby finished painting the Hall, I went down and cleared up.
Sunday 19th It was very windy and a few showers. Willie rode over to Ti Point to take Minnie some mutton. I read service in the Hall in the pm.
Monday 20th It was a fine day, but very windy. Willie and I went down to the Store and hauled up a Sack of Sharps. I was digging in the front garden and burning rubbish.
Tuesday 21st It was a beautiful day, and very warm. I was digging in the front garden in the morning. In the afternoon Willie and I went down to the village. The “Rose Casey” came in early, and most of the hands went shooting.
Kiri Brown gave a social in the Hall in the evening as a farewell to Mrs Harris and Miss Brown, there were about 100 present. The music was good and an excellent supper, we all enjoyed ourselves. Mrs Ellis Dyer came up with us and staid all night.
Wednesday 22nd It was very dull in the morning. Willie took the bullock down to the wharf and hauled up Minnie sewing machine that she sent round in the “Kapanui“. It rained in the afternoon.
Thursday 23rd There were a few showers. Willie and I went down to the Hall in the morning to clear up. I was working in the front garden in the afternoon. There was a choir practice in the evening.
Friday 24th It was a fine day. I was working in the front garden.
I went down for the mail and to the Library in the evening.
Willie went to a party at Harpers.
Saturday 25th It was a fine day. Charlie Gravatt came to register the Death of their little daughter who died early this morning. Jane lent Empress to Mary Spencer to ride over to Pakiri. Willie went fishing to Ti Point but did not catch anything. There was a meeting of the newly elected Road Board. I was elected Chairman.
Sunday 26th There was a very frost this morning. It was a beautiful day and so calm. Minnie and Joe came for dinner. Charlie Gravatt’s baby was buried in the Cemetery at 2 pm, I officiated. We had service in the Hall afterwards there was a large congregation it being Whit Sunday. Miss Hutchinson, & Minnie and Joe were here for tea.
Monday 27th It was a fine day. Commenced supplying J. C. Wyatt with 1 pint of milk per day. I was working in the front garden all day.
Tuesday 28th It was a fine day. I was working in the front garden in the morning. Willie walked to Ti Point to get some shells for the fowls which he brought round in the “Rose Casey”.
Wednesday 29th It was a fine day. Willie and I took the bullock down to the wharf in the morning and hauled up the shells that Willie got yesterday, also some grit and 100 lbs Flour that I got from Harpers. In the afternoon we burned the pine branches in the front garden. There was a choir practice in the evening.
Thursday 30th It was a fine day, we were burning rubbish in the front garden. Jane went over to Ti Point to take Minnie a horse as she and Joe are going to the Coastal Steam ships annual Meeting in Warkworth this evening, Jane returned home in the evening and brought Minnie’s baby to take care of.
Friday 31st It was a fine day. Joe and Minnie returned here from Warkworth, and after a sleep and breakfast, they returned home to Ti Point taking the baby. We were burning up logs in the front garden and digging up periwinckle.
I went down to the village in the evening. There was a meeting of the Hall Committee and there should have been a meeting of the Library Committee, but there was not a quorum.
