Friday 1st It was a fine day. I went down to the Post Office in the morning.
I cut all the Cocksfoot Grass Seed in the orchard and garden and Willie thrashed it out. Miss Kempt and two Miss Frickers were here for tea.
I went to the Library in the evening.
Saturday 2nd After we milked the cows it came on a misty rain and it rained until after noon. Willie went fishing down to this wharf and brought home 2 schnappers. I was cutting fern and tea tree in the front. The Queen was buried today, there was a public holiday.
Sunday 3rd It was fine in the morning, but it threatened for rain in the afternoon. Revd G. Frost held service in the Hall in the afternoon, there was a large congregation, the sermon had reference to the death of the Queen with suitable Hymns and Dead March. The collection was 13/2.
Monday 4th It rained heavily last night and during nearly the whole of to day, we were not able to do any work out of doors.
Tuesday 5th It was cloudy in the morning and a few slight showers, but it turned out a very fine day. We picked 2 Cases Orleans Plums and 1 Case peaches also a mixed Case for Mrs Jackson and hauled them down to the wharf in the afternoon, and hauled up 70 lb Bag Sugar, Egg Box and a Cask that I bought of Mr Pirrett.
Mr Wm Greenwood came to register the death of his brother Mr John Greenwood which occurred last night.
Wednesday 6th It was a fine day. We all went to see the Steamer off this morning, Jane went round in the Rose to Ti Point to take Minnie some Plums. D. & B. Birdsall shipped 300 Sheep in the two Steamers.
Mr John Greenwood Senr was buried in the cemetery in the pm.
I read the service, there was a large gathering.
Jane staid all night with Minnie.
Thursday 7th It was a fine day with the exception of a shower in the afternoon.
I was very unwell and was not able to do anything.
Jane returned in the evening from Ti Point on Joe Torkington’s horse.
Friday 8th It was a fine day. Mr J. B. Roose came in the morning and staid dinner, we gave him a small order.
Wilfred Torkington came in the evening to take Joe’s horse home.
Saturday 9th It was a fine day. Willie rode to Ti Point to fish and brought home several schnappers. The Omaha Cricket Club played a match at Warkworth with the local team, the Omaha club beat.
There was a meeting of the Committee in the evening, but I did not feel well enough to attend.
Sunday 10th It was a fine day. Mr and Mrs Jack Cruickshank drove over in their sulkey to spend the day with us, they returned home after tea. I read service in the Hall in the evening . Minnie & Joe came over.
Monday 11th It was a fine day. We were picking fruit all day. Tom Ashton came in the afternoon to get an exemption from vaccination for his two children, he staid for tea. We caught a lot of roosters in the evening to send away tomorrow.
Tuesday 12th It was a fine day. We picked 2 Cases of Beurie Capiaumont Pears in the morning, also caught the remainder of the young roosters, 18 in all, and put them in a Crate. Hauled down 11 Cases Fruit, 1 Box Eggs & 1 Crate (18) Roosters. The “Orewa” came instead of the “Rose Casey” and she was very late. Bowden Birdsall sent away over 400 Sheep between the two Steamers. I got a 100 lbs Flour from Harpers. Robert and Miss Williams came over in the evening and we had a game of cards.
Wednesday 13th It was a hot day, Willie and I were digging Potatoes in the morning. Mrs W. Wyatt came for dinner, Jane rode over to Big Omaha in the afternoon to go with Miss Williams to a concert at Warkworth this evening.
Willie rode to Ti Point and brought home 2 Schnappers and some Peaches.
Thursday 14th It was a fine day. Willie and I were digging Potatoes. Jane returned from Williams’ in the pm.
Friday 15th It was a fine day. I budded young Peach trees with the following varieties obtained from R. Williams. Viz Bonds Seedling and Cruickshank. In the afternoon I was digging below the young Peach trees.
Beauty calved a Heifer Calf we milked her in the evening.
The “Rob Roy” called in on her way to Auckland, a great many went up by her, including the Omaha cricketers, most of them went up to see the Imperial Troops.
Saturday 16th It was a fine day, tho’ cloudy. Did odd jobs in the morning. Meeting of the Road Board in the pm.
Sunday 17th It was a fine day tho’ rather misty. Willie rode over to Ti Point to spend the day with Joe and Minnie.
I went to call at the Handbys in the afternoon and staid tea. I held service in the Hall in the evening, there were only 9 present on account of so many being in Auckland.
Monday 18th It was a fine day. Willie and I picked 6 Cases Orleans Plums in the farm orchard. Jane took Mrs Gravatt some in the evening.
Tuesday 19th It was a fine day. We finished picking fruit in the morning. Joe and Willie came for dinner and we all went down to the wharf in the afternoon to meet the Steamer. Messrs W. & J. Torkington and a friend of theirs Mr Mayall came up in the “Kapanui” the two former has just returned from a trip to the old country. We did not wait for the Rose to come in as she was so late. Miss Ida Darroch and Miss Jenkinson were here for tea. There was a Social in the Hall in the evening. All the Torkingtons came over, more than 30/- was taken.
Wednesday 20th It was a fine day. I took the bullock down to the wharf in the morning and hauled up 50 lbs Wheatmeal, empty Egg box and Box of Groceries for Charlie. Jane rode over to Minnies to do some sewing. Willie went with the Boyds to draw the net. I was tightening up and stapling the fence on the road leading to Mr Neeleys.
Thursday 21st It was a dull day and the wind was blowing from E.
I was doing odd jobs.
Messrs W. J. & Wilfred Torkington and Mr Mayall came to spend the evening , It came on to rain so they all staid all night .
Friday 22nd It rained and was blowing all day. Was not able to do anything out of doors. I went down to the Post Office in the evening, our guests went down with me and then they returned to Ti Point.
Saturday 23rd It did not rain, but it was a dull day. We were picking in some of the fruit for the Show, a great deal of fruit was blown off by the wind yesterday.
Sunday 24th It was very misty in the morning, but it cleared up afterwards and turned out a fine day. I rode over to Ti Point to spend the day with Joe and Minnie.
I went to the Hall in the evening, but it came on a drizzling rain and no one put in an appearance, so I came home.
Monday 25th It was a fine day. Willie and I were picking fruit for market. We killed a long tail Lamb in the evening.
Tuesday 26th It was a fine day. Willie and I were getting ready the exhibits for the Show. We hauled then down to the Hall in the afternoon, also 7 Cases of Fruit to the wharf . Jane and I went down to the Hall in the evening.
Wednesday 27th It was a fine day. I went down to the Hall early in the morning to arrange my exhibits. The Steamers brought about 80 passengers between them.
Mrs, Miss & Chas Harding came up in the “Rose Casey“. Miss Harding came up here for lunch, there were also here, Mrs Jack Cruickshank, 2 Miss Cruickshanks, Miss Brown and Minnie. We all went to the Show in the afternoon, and about the same number returning here for tea. There was a very good Concert and Dance in the evening, two Miss Cruickshanks and Miss Brown staid all night.
Thursday 28th It was a fine day. Jane, the Miss Cruickshanks and Miss Brown rode down to the Goat Island beach to gather shells. Mrs Sutherland came in their absence, she staid for tea.
Willie rode to Ti Point to fish and brought home 2 Schnapper.
