September 1900

Saturday 1st   It rained nearly all day.  There was a meeting of the Road Board in the afternoon.   I went down, there were only three members present.

Sunday 2nd   It rained nearly all day.  There was no service in the afternoon.

Monday 3rd   It was showery in the morning, but it was finer in the afternoon and evening.
Willie and I went over to Miss Niccols several times to bring away some things that I bought of Miss Niccol.   Miss Niccol, Miss Mitchell & Jack Cruickshank came for tea and staid all night.  We had a party in the evening as a send off for Miss Niccol, there were 22 of us altogether.  We had a very pleasant evening.  Mr Joseph Greenwood presented Miss Niccol on behalf of the subscribers with a handsome Album.

Tuesday 4th   It was a very fine morning, but very heavy rain in the afternoon.  Jane came home from Warkworth in the morning.
Miss Niccol and Miss Mitchell went to Auckland by the “Rose Casey“. The new Teacher, Miss Hutchison and her mother came up by the “Kapanui“.   Minnie and Joe and the baby also came up by the “kapanui” by way of Auckland, they came up and staid here, we hauled a box of Eggs down to the wharf and hauled up a Sack of Maize, a Bag of Sugar and an empty Egg box.

Wednesday 5th   It was a fine day, but the ground is terribly wet, there was a shower of rain in the evening.  Willie went fishing to Ti Point and brought home a few fish.  I was cutting and pulling tea tree out in the front.

Thursday 6th   It was a beautiful day.  Minnie and Joe went over to Ti Point to live, their furniture having come up and was landed at Ti Point last Tuesday.  Willie went over with them to bring the horse home that Minnie rode.  he staid over there all day helping them.
I was pruning trees in the farm orchard.

Friday 7th   It was a fine day.  Willie went out in a boat with Walter Wyatt to fish – but there was such a heavy swell on that they had to come in, they only caught a few fish.  I was burning a lot of rubbish in the orchard.  The SS “Rob Roy” called in from Auckland to land Charlie Wyatt and Mr Savage.
Jane and Mrs G. Wyatt went to Mrs Dunnings in the afternoon.
Mrs D. Knaggs & Mrs McKinnon called here in the afternoon, the former to register her baby. I went down to the Post Office and the Library in the evening.  Jane had a letter from Henry.

Saturday 8th   It was a fine day, but it came over cloudy several times as if we were going to have rain and there was a shower in the evening.  Willie and I commenced to plant Potatoes in the orchard.

Sunday 9th   It was a fine day.  Mrs G. Wyatt and the baby returned to John Wyatts in the afternoon, Jane went with her and staid there for tea.  Revd G. Frost preached in the Hall in the afternoon, there was a large congregation.

Monday 10th   It was a fine day, but it looks as if we are going to have a change of weather.  Willie and I continued planting potatoes in the orchard.  Walter Frearson and Annie Goodwin called in the evening.

Tuesday 11th   It was very dull day, my back was so bad I could do nothing, packed a box of Eggs and Jane carried it down to the gate and Charlie Wyatt hauled it down to the wharf for me.  Jane went down to look after the Library for me.  There was to have been a Social in the Hall in the evening, but none of us went, it rained heavily.  We heard afterwards that there were only 15 there.

Wednesday 12th   I was unable to do anything on account of my back.  There were several showers during the day.
Willie went fishing to Ti Point and brought home a large Kawhai.
Dan Kempt came in the evening.

Thursday  13th   It was a fine day.  The Bible Class held their anniversary to day by holding a Picnic in the afternoon on the flat, Jane and Willie went to it, and I went down to the Hall in the evening where they had a religious service and afterwards games and a supper.  We enjoyed ourselves very much.

Friday 14th   It was a fine day.  There was a Special Meeting of the Road Board in the Hall in the pm.  I was down and afterwards went down to the Post Office to get the mail.  Jane went to A. Mathesons in the afternoon.

Saturday 15th   It was a very showery day.  When it took up a little in the afternoon I went down to the Library to number some books.

Sunday 16th   It was very fine the first thing in the morning, and promised to be a beautiful day, but afterwards turned out to be very showery.  I went down to the Bible Class in the morning.  It was very showery in the afternoon.  I went down to the Hall, but there was no service.  Jane went with May Dunning went to call on Miss Hutchinson in the pm.

Monday 17th   It was a fine day wind from SW.  I packed the Eggs in the morning.  In the afternoon I regrafted a few branches of Pear with Beurie Clairgau.  Commenced to dig in the orchard on the far side.

Tuesday 18th   It was a beautiful day.  We planted a few Potatoes in the morning.  Took the bullock down to the wharf in the afternoon with a box of Eggs and a bundle of (9) skins and hauled up 1 Sack of Maize ,  100lbs Flour, and a box of Groceries.  The “Rob Roy” came instead of the “Rose Casey

Wednesday 19th   It was a fine day.  Willie and I were planting Potatoes in the morning and I continued doing so in the afternoon, but Willie went fishing to Ti Point, but only caught a few little fish.  In the afternoon Miss Williams came and staid all night.  May Dunning and Florrie Torkington were here for tea.  In the evening Miss Williams and Jane went down to Mrs Fordhams to call.

Thursday 20th   It was fine in the morning.  Willie and I were planting Potatoes in the orchard.  Jane and Miss Williams rode up to John Greenwoods in the afternoon and staid all night .
It rained very heavy at about 4 pm also in the evening.

Friday 21st   It was a fine day.  I went down to the Village in the morning.  Willie and I finished planting Potatoes in the orchard.  Jane and Miss Williams returned from John Greenwoods at noon and Miss W went home in the pm.  I sowed Tomato Seed in a box near the back gate.

Saturday 22nd   It was a fine day.  We sowed 2 rows Statagem Peas in the orchard.  Willie went to Ti Point in the pm.  There was a meeting of the School Committee in the Library in the evening, also a meeting of the Hall Committee.

Sunday 23rd   It was a beautiful day.  We set a Hen in a coop in the back yard  with 13 Eggs,  Brown Leghorn from Neeleys.
Revd R. McKinney held service in the Hall in the morning, there was a large congregation.  Jane and I went, Jane went somewhere for dinner, but I came home.
Willie went up to Pratts to spend the day.
I walked to Ti Point in the afternoon, Minnie and Joe were not at home so I called at Mr Neeleys and afterwards at Duncan Knaggs where I had tea, arriving home about dark.

Monday 24th   It was a fine day.  Willie and I were digging down at the cottage all day.
Jane rode over to  Minnies place at Ti Point in the afternoon,  there was a party over there as a send off to Florrie Torkington  who is leaving for Auckland tomorrow.

Tuesday 25th   There seems a change in the weather today, the wind is at NE.  Packed the Eggs and Charlie hauled them down to the wharf for me.  I went down to the Village in the afternoon, carried up the empty Egg box.  It came on to rain in the pm.

Wednesday 26th   It rained heavily last night, and the ground is very wet to day.  It was a tolerably fine day.  I went down to the beach in the morning to get shells for the fowls.  In the afternoon I planted the Canna’s that John Greenwood gave us, afterwards I was digging in the orchard.  Willie went fishing at Ti Point but only brought home a small rock cod.  Jane rode to Minnies and afterwards to Matakana.

Thursday 27th   Jane returned from Ti Point in the morning.  Willie and I were digging in the orchard all day.
Walter Frearson came and spent the evening.  There were a few showers.

Friday 28th   It was a very showery day, they were very frequent & heavy, also hail.  We were not able to do anything out of doors.
I made a hen coop in the shed .  Set 2 Hens on 13 Eggs each that came from Wm  Savages.

Saturday 29th   It was a very showery day.  I was getting firewood in the morning.  There was a meeting of the Road Board in the afternoon.  Dolly calved a Heifer Calf.

Sunday 30th   It was very showery and squally all day.  We got Dolly and her calf in and milked her.
On account of the weather there was no Service in the Hall in the afternoon.
