Tuesday 1st It was a fine day. I went down to the Wharf in the morning and hauled up a bag of gravel, also 100lb Flour & ½ bushel Maize from Harpers. I was sowing Grass Seed in the afternoon.
Wednesday 2nd It was a fine day. I was sowing Grass Seed all day.
Went down to Charlies in the evening to attend to some Road Board business.
Honor Wyatt was here for tea and staid all night.
Thursday 3rd It was a fine day. Dan Kempt commenced mending the fence between my land and the School Teachers paddock.
I went and took the wires of my fence off the straining post near the big gate, as Dan was going to take it out and put it in deeper.
The remainder of the day I was sowing Grass Seed.
Friday 4th It was a fine day. I put the wires on the straining post again the other side of the School in the morning.
I was sowing Grass Seed in the pm. Killed a Sheep in the afternoon.
I took Mr Knaggs place in the Library in the evening, as he is laid up with a bad cold.
Saturday 5th It rained in the morning, but it cleared up in the pm although it was very dull. Sowed Grass Seed in the afternoon.
Sunday 6th It was fine while we milked and then it rained all day. I had no service in the afternoon.
Monday 7th It was a fine day. I was sowing grass seed all day . Minnie went up to Mauds in the pm.
Tuesday 8th It was a fine day. Willie staid at home from School and helped me. We made a wattle fence on the hill between our place and Haskells, in the morning. In the afternoon we burnt heaps of tea tree in the front. I went down to the Steamer in the evening.
Wednesday 9th It rained last night. I went down to the Wharf with the bullocks in the morning and haule up 70 lb Bag of Sugar & Box of Groceries that came by the Steamer last night also 2 Bushels of Cocksfoot Seed that Mrs Fordham returned, also a bushel of Maize from Harpers.
It rained all the afternoon. I rode over to Youngs Creek in the pm to pass some work for the Road Board.
Albert Wyatt came and paid 3/9 for 5 weeks grazing of his horse in the E.R. to last Monday the 7th.
Thursday 10th I was sowing Grass Seed all day. There was a very heavy shower of rain in the afternoon.
Friday 11th It was a fine day. I was sowing Grass Seed all day.
Miss Nelly Lloyd was here for tea.
Killed a Sheep in the evening. I went to the Library in the evening to give books out as Mr Knaggs is in Auckland.
Saturday 12th It was a fine day. I was sowing Grass Seed in the afternoon. Minnie & Miss Niccol rode over to Matakana in the afternoon and they staid all night.
Sunday 13th It rained nearly all day. We put most of the cows out on the farm and only kept 2 in, which we put into the barley paddock to supply us with milk.
There was no service in the afternoon. Miss Niccol and Minnie returned from Matakana in the evening and with them came
J. Cruickshank and Tony Smith, who staid all night.
Monday 14th It was showery nearly all day. Wind blowing strong from the E. and a heavy sea outside the harbour. J. Cruickshank & Tony Smith returned home in the morning. I was pulling tea tree all day.
Tuesday 15th It was a very misty day, but it did not rain and it was very calm, but it poured with rain in the evening, we went down to the village in the evening and got wet through. The Steamer went into Big Omaha and is not going to come round here until tomorrow morning. There was to have been a dance in the Hall in aid of the Cricket Club, but on account of the wet weather it did not come off.
Wednesday 16th The Steamer came in about 8 am and left again about 8.30. Miss Niccol, Jane and Willie went up to Auckland in her, Willie to stay with Miss Niccol and Jane to stay at Mrs Hardings.
It was misty and dull in the morning but it turned out a fine day.
I took two saws to Tom Wyatts in the morning to be sharpened.
I was sowing grass seed in the afternoon.
Thursday 17th It was a fine day. I was sowing Grass Seed all day.
Friday 18th It was a fine day. I was sowing Grass Seed. Killed a Sheep in the afternoon. I went to the Library in the evening to give out the books.
Saturday 19th It was a fine day. I took out the mutton in the morning, was sowing Grass Seed in the afternoon. There was a meeting of the Road Board in the evening. The young fellows had the Hall for skating, so we had to hold our meeting at Mr Harpers.
Sunday 20th The Queens Diamond Jubilee, or the 60 anniversary of the Queen’s Accession to the Throne.
It was very fine in the morning, but dull, but just about the time for going to Church it came on drizzling rain and prevented many from going. I held service in the Hall, but there were only 12 present, we sang the National Anthem and I read a special sermon for the occasion written by Revd W. Beattie, Minnie & I were quite alone all day.
Monday 21st It was a beautiful day. I was sowing Grass Seed all day. Minnie & I went to tea and spent the evening at Mrs Fordhams and we enjoyed ourselves very much.
Tuesday 22nd It was a beautiful day & very calm. I was sowing grass seed all day.
Wednesday 23rd It was fine in the morning. I took the Eggs down to the Store and brought up a bushell of Maize .
I sowed a little grass seed in the morning. It rained in the afternoon.
Thursday 24th It was a fine day. I was sowing grass seed.
Friday 25th It was a fine day. I sowed grass seed. Killed a Sheep in the evening.
Saturday 26th It was a fine day. I carried out the mutton in the morning and sowed grass seed in the afternoon.
Sunday 27th It was a fine day. Mrs & Tony Smith of Matakana came in the morning and staid for dinner & tea, and Mrs Smith staid all night. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon. Mr & Mrs J. C. Wyatt and boys came here for tea and spent the evening.
Monday 28th It was a beautiful day. I was sowing grass seed.
Tuesday 29th It was a showery day. The Steamer arrived in the evening, bringing the excursionists back from the jubilee rejoicings.
Jane & Willie came back, also Miss Niccol & her sister. It was very wet and muddy coming up from the Steamer, Charlie Gravatt came up to our place and staid all night.
Wednesday 30th It was a fine day. Walter Frearson was hauling Miss Niccol’s furniture from the wharf up to her house, I was helping. School duties re-commenced to day
