Monday 1st It was a fine day. The boys were splitting posts. I was clearing the line for the fence.
Tuesday 2nd There was a heavy shower early in the morning, but it cleared up and turned out a fine day. John was hauling out posts and Henry and I were putting in posts in the morning. In the pm the boys were down at the Hall preparing for the Social. In the evening the bachelors gave a Social in the Hall, we all went and enjoyed ourselves very much. Unfortunately about midnight it started to rain and continued all night. Maud came down the hill to go to it and Willie came up by the Steamer, they came up here to sleep .
Wednesday 3rd It rained all day.
Thursday 4th It was a fine day. Willie and Maud went home in the morning. The boys were splitting posts. I was putting in posts. We killed the pig in the pm.
Friday 5th It was a fine day. I cut up the pig and salted it away. The boys were splitting posts in the morning and hauling some out in the afternoon. Killed a Sheep in the evening.
Saturday 6th It was a fine day. The boys were splitting and hauling out Posts. The young people went up to Miss Hardings in the evening to a party.
Sunday 7th It was very fine in the morning, but it came over cloudy and we had a few showers. Henry went to Auckland in the “Ida” on route for Sydney.
I conducted service in the Hall in the afternoon, small congregation. Maud, Willie and the children came here to stay. The Miss Hardings, Jim Dunning & C. Gravatt & W. Wyatt came here for tea.
Monday 8th It was cold & showery in the morning, but the wind changed to SW and it turned out a fine day. Willie Pratt commenced to work here to day. He and John cross cutted some Kauri blocks for splitting palings. In the pm we were putting in posts.
Tuesday 9th It was a fine day. Willie was not well enough to work. John continued fencing.
Wednesday 10th It was a fine day. Willie was not well enough to work. John hauled up the wire from the wharf that came up by the Steamer last night. John and I were fencing.
Thursday 11th It was a fine day. We continued fencing. Willie was working. John hauled a load for Mr Masefield from Ti Point to Mr Harveys house where Mr Masefield is going to live.
Friday 12th It was a fine day. We continued fencing. Willie working.
Saturday 13th It was a fine day. Slight showers in the afternoon. John hauled out some straining posts and struts. Put in a straining post at the cross roads. Revd J. Haselden passed us on his way to Pakiri, he had married Mr Masefield and Miss Copeland this morning.
Sunday 14th It was a dull day, but it did not rain. Revd J. Haselden held service in the Hall in the afternoon. 66 congregation. Collection 18/5.
Monday 15th It was a dull day, but did not rain anything to speak of. But it poured with rain in the evening. John took the young bullocks and hauled old Mr Copeland from Ti Point to Harpers house. We put in 3 Straining Post. Willie was working here.
Tuesday 16th It was showery. John and Willie were cross cutting & splitting straining Posts. I was clearing the line up to T. Wyatts fence. Rained hard at night
Wednesday 17th It was a fine day. John hauled straining posts in the morning. I was boring posts for the wire. John and Willie put in 3 straining Posts.
Thursday 18th Willie, Maud & children went home in the morning. John rode to Matakana. I mended the orchard fence.
Friday 19th It was a fine day. We put struts to the Straining Posts.
Saturday 20th It was a fine day. We finished putting in the posts up to T. Wyatts place.
Sunday 21st It was a dull day. Revd Worboys held service here for the first time in the Hall in the afternoon. Rained in the evening.
Monday 22nd Dull day. John went shooting. I put in 2 struts. Was making rollers.
Tuesday 23rd It was a dull day and the wind blowing strong from the E. John went shooting. I was making rollers in the shed. The Steamer did not come in the evening on account of the heavy sea.
Wednesday 24th It rained very heavy during the night which beat the sea down. The Steamer came in early in the morning, Jane went to Auckland with the Miss Hardings who went for the mid winter holidays. John and I tightened up the wires next the School paddock in the morning. In the pm we cut the round iron into roller pins and fixed up the fence near the big culvert. It turned out a fine day.
Thursday 25th It was a fine day with the exception of a few slight showers. John and I commenced putting the wire on the fence. We put it on from the barley paddock fence to the gateway near the swamp, we are only going to put 4 plain wires on now.
Friday 26th It was a fine day. We continued putting the wire on the fence. We walked to Ti Point in the afternoon to examine the approach to the wharf. John went down to shoot a beast for Fordhams that had fallen over the cliff. We killed a Sheep in the evening. There was a meeting of the Library Committee. I was present.
Saturday 27th It was a fine day. We were making rollers in the morning and putting wire on in the afternoon.
There was a meeting of the Road Board in the Hall in the evening, I was present.
Sunday 28th It was very fine in the morning but there was a heavy shower of rain after dinner. I read service in the Hall in the pm, there were 22 present.
Monday 29th It was a fine day. We were putting the wire on the fence in the morning. John hauled up some socket pipes from the Wharf also a Bag of Flour from Harpers in the afternoon.
I made rollers in the afternoon. Miss Jessie Witten was here for dinner.
Tuesday 30th It was showery in the morning. But it turned out a fine day.
We finished putting the wire on the fence right up to Tom Wyatts fence. The Steamer came in early in the afternoon. The Miss Hardings and Jane returned from Auckland.
