Monday 1st There were several showers during the day. I was pruning in the farm orchard. Henry was cutting tea tree.
Tuesday 2nd There were a few showers. I was pruning in the farm orchard. Henry was cutting tea tree.
Wednesday 3rd It was a fine day. I finished pruning in the farm orchard. I regrafted the 4 Chaumontel Pears that did not take. Henry was cutting tea tree.
Thursday 4th It was a fine day. I put some grafts on a Pear tree the far side of the orchard Duchesse D’Augoulême . After that I dug up and manured some ground the top side of the house and planted about 80 Manchester Defiance Cabbage, 4 rows 2 ft apart & 16 in apart. Henry was cutting tea tree.
Friday 5th It was a fine day. I was digging and manuring ground the top side of the house for peas. Henry was cutting tea tree.
Saturday 6th It was a fine day. I sowed 13 rows of Brown Spanish Onions against the back gate, also 2 rows of Turnips. I also sowed a few seeds of Tomato. Willie & Henry went out fishing and caught about 20. Ernest & Albert Wyatt came to spend the evening.
Sunday 7th It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon, there was a good congregation. Mr Harper, Eva & Walter Wyatt were here for tea.
Monday 8th It was a fine day. School recommenced after the Michaelmas holidays. Henry was cutting tea tree. I was digging the top side of the house.
Tuesday 9th It was a fine day. I finished digging the piece of ground top side of the house. Henry was cutting tea tree. There was a dance in the Hall in the evening.
Wednesday 10th There was a heavy shower of rain in the morning, but it afterwards turned out a fine day. I regrafted some Apple trees in the orchard and also one in the farm do . Henry was hunting for the bullocks all day, but not finding them he took the horse and found them up on the mail road.
Thursday 11th It was a fine day. Henry was hauling goods for Mr Harvey. I was mending the fence between our place and Haskells & Mathesons. Sowed a row of Peas (Veitch’s Perfection) .
Friday 12th It was a very fine day. I sowed a row of Peas (Dr McLean) next to the others the top side of the house. Henry was cutting tea tree in the morning, he & I commenced digging near the gate going into the pigs paddock.
Saturday 13th It was a very fine day. We were digging all day. There was a meeting of the Farmers Association in the evening.
Sunday 14th It was a fine day. I read service in the afternoon. I went up to Mr Handbys after service and staid for tea. Henry went up to the mail road and brought home Dolby who has calved a bull calf.
Monday 15th It was a fine day. We were digging all day, the ground is getting very very hard.
Tuesday 16th It was a fine day. We finished digging the piece of ground that we were at and made a start the far side of the orchard. There was a dance in the Hall in the evening in aid of the Cricket Club.
Wednesday 17th It was a fine day. Henry was hauling goods for Mr Rogers, also 1 Sack Maize & 1 Sack Bone Dust for us. I was working amongst the Potatoes the far side of the orchard.
Thursday 18th It was a fine day. Willie P was working here today. We commenced digging the orchard, commenced against the top Jargonell Pear trees working this way.
Friday 19th It was a fine day. It rained a little in the morning, but it turned out a very hot day. Willie P was helping us dig in the orchard.
Saturday 20th It was a fine day. Willie P was helping us dig in the orchard.
Sunday 21st It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the pm.
P. McDevit died early this morning.
Monday 22nd It rained a little last night, but not enough to wet the ground & it turned out a fine day. Willie P. helped us dig in the orchard.
Mr McDevit was buried in this cemetery in the afternoon , after an Inquest was held on him. I read the Church Service.
Tuesday 23rd It was a fine day. Willie was helping us dig in the orchard. I went down to the Steamer in the evening, we made arrangements with Mr McGregor about the freight to be charged on the various sizes of Fruit Cases adopted by the Fruitgrowers Union.
Wednesday 24th It was a fine day. Henry was hauling goods for Mr Harvey. Willie was helping us dig in the orchard.
Thursday 25th It was a fine day. Willie helped us dig, we commenced in the Farm Orchard. Maud & Minnie went over to see Mrs Heber Meiklejohn.
Friday 26th A slight shower of rain in the morning, but it turned out a fine day. Willie was helping us dig in the farm orchard, we finished the side where the Orleans Plums are. Walter Wyatt took John’s mare to Warkworth.
Saturday 27th It was threatening for rain, but we did not get any. Willie was helping us dig in the farm orchard, we dug a strip along the Damsons, we finished in the evening what we are going to dig in that orchard. There was skating in the Hall in the evening.
Sunday 28th The Revd R. McKinney preached in the Hall in the morning. I rode up to Pratts to spend the day, but it came on to rain in the pm so I stayed all night. Charlie Pratt was over here in the pm, two Miss Kempts staid here all night.
Monday 29th I returned from the Pratts in the morning, Mr P coming with me as far as Jos Greenwoods. It turned out a fine day, the rain has sunk deep into the ground and has done a great deal of good. I was hoeing between the Potatoes at the bottom of the orchard. Henry was digging near the bee hives.
Tuesday 30th There were several showers during the day. I was moulding up Potatoes the far side of the orchard. Henry was splitting Posts and mending up the fence round his garden.
I went down to the Steamer in the evening. The Wool Packs came up for the members of the Farmers Association.
Wednesday 31st Several showers during the day, very hot between the showers. I was earthing up Potatoes the far side of the orchard & pulling up tea tree on the farm. Henry picked up the dead wool.
