Saturday 7th We got the Sheep up from the Barley paddock and put out on to the farm 17 Ewes which have taken the Ram. 67 have now taken the Ram.
Monday 9th Election of a Member to represent Waitemata in Parliament. I acted as Returning Officer here. Mr W. F. Massey and Mr Jackson Palmer were the candidates. Massey polled 25 votes & Palmer 15 here. Henry went to Auckland by way of Warkworth. Willie going over there to bring his horse back.
Tuesday 10th Willie was cutting firewood. I was cutting scrub in the morning and logging up near the sheep pen in the afternoon.
Wednesday 11th The Steamer came in at noon, Henry came by her bringing the sheet lead for the gutters timber etc. We cut a little tea tree in the afternoon and then went down to the wharf with the catamaran and four bullocks and hauled up the lead etc.
Thursday 12th We took off the Shingles the top side of the house and commenced to put on the new Shingles. Willie is helping us in this job.
Friday 13th We continued Shingling the house.
Saturday 14th We finished Shingling the top side of the house.
I went to Mr Hadwicks & Mr Ashtons in the afternoon. Henry & Willie went down to the Wharf with the bullocks to haul up some drain pipes for chimney pots, sand & a bag of flour.
Sunday 15th It was fine weather in the morning. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon. While we were in Church it rained & also in the evening.
Monday 16th It was a fine day. Charlie Wyatt came to work here. Willie Pratt was also working here. We took one of the gutters out and put a lead one in.
Tuesday 17th It was a fine day. Charlie came here again to finish the gutters and help shingle. The “Rose Casey” has resumed her winter trips and came in this evening. The Annual Meeting of Subscribers to the Show was held in the Hall, but on account of the small attendance the election of a committee was left for a meeting of the Farmer’s Association.
Wednesday 18th It was a fine day. Mr Hadwick came to put the chimney pots on. Charlie did not come today. Willie, Henry and I were shingling.
Thursday 19th Charlie came to work here today. We took the other gutter out, but were not able to get the new lead gutter in although we worked until it was dark. Willie & I continued shingling. It was a fine day.
Friday 20th It was a fine day. Charlie was unable to come today as he had to go for the mail. We finished putting in the second gutter, and went on with the shingling.
There was a social at the School this evening given by Miss Wann to inorgurate the opening of the School Library, the parents of the children attending the School and the School Committee were invited, and we spent a very pleasant evening.
Saturday 21st It was a fine day. We were shingling all day. There was a cricket match on the hill between the Omaha and Matakana Clubs which resulted in a win for Matakana by 6 runs.
Sunday 22nd It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the evening afternoon. Fred Pratt was here for tea.
Monday 23rd It rained last night and was showery during the morning. Willie did not work in the morning, but helped shingle in the pm. The Annual meeting of Householders was held in the School at 4 pm. The old Committee were re elected. We got the Sheep up from the Barley Paddock and 14 Ewes we marked on the shoulders as being in Lamb. This makes 81 that are in lamb.
Tuesday 24th Willie was working on his own account cutting firewood. Henry & I finished shingling and we are ready for putting the ridging on. Mr Pratt was here for tea. Went down to the Steamer she was in pretty early. There was a dance in the hall in the evening.
Wednesday 25th It was very showery in the morning and very squally all day. We made some lead headed nails and we fixed the ridging on the roof. Henry hauled up 1 Sack Flour and a box of Groceries from the Wharf.
Thursday 26th It was a fine day. We got all the Sheep up in the morning and put the remainder of the Ewes into the Barley paddock with Casses’ Ram. We cut tea tree in the pm, outside the fence in the front
Friday 27th It was a fine day. We got a Wether out of the E.R. in the morning & cleaned all the Lambs.
We set fire to the tea tree above Mr Wyatt’s house. There was a cricket match at Pakiri between Omaha & Te Arai Clubs, Omaha beat. Also a Soiree in the evening. All the young people went. I went down for the mail also to the Library.
Saturday 28th It was a fine day. Continued burning the tea tree & rats tail grass above Mr Wyatts house.
Sunday 29th It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon and also took the Sunday School for Miss Wann. Maud & Willie went up to Pratts in the afternoon.
Monday 30th It was a showery day. Henry & Willie went Pigeon shooting to Pakiri and shot 13. I cleaned out the pig, mended the orchard fence and put some fresh boards on the shed.
