Monday 1st It was a fine day. The boys were cutting bush. I sowed 8 rows Stone Turnips 12 inches between the rows, also 2 rows of Tree Onions, 12 inches between the rows.
Tuesday 2nd It looked like rain in the morning, but it turned out a fine day. We were all digging at the bottom of the orchard. Jessie Witten came and staid all night.
Wednesday 3rd There were a few showers during the day. We were all digging the far side of the orchard. Charlie had the use of our bullocks to haul up timber.
Thursday 4th We were all digging the far side of the orchard. A heavy shower of rain in the pm.
Friday 5th The boys got Daisy home in the morning, I think she calved yesterday, a bull calf, we killed the calf. The boys were cutting bush. I cleaned out the pigs and dug far side of the orchard.
Saturday 6th The boys were cutting bush in the morning. I was digging the far side of the orchard. Willie P. came in the evening and staid over Sunday.
Sunday 7th It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the pm. Mr Pratt & Sarah came to the service and came up to our place for tea. We have now 4 Lambs.
Monday 8th It was a very fine day. We were all digging where we intend to plant with Parsnips & Carrots.
Tuesday 9th It was a fine day. The boys were cutting bush. I was digging the top side of the house. I sowed 1 row Veitch’s Perfection Peas over a trench manured with pig manure, bone dust and ashes in the drill.
Wednesday 10th The Steamer did not go out today on account of the gale blowing from NE. At noon it came on to rain & it blew and rained all afternoon & evening. John helped A. Haskell mend up the bush fence between our places. Henry hauled up Flour & Sharpes from the Wharf, also a load for C. Wyatt. I sowed another row of Veitch’s Perfection Peas 4 ft from the other row.
Thursday 11th The wind still blowing strong from the NE, accompanied by rain. The Steamer still in the harbour. We were not able to work out of doors. I was making Cases in the shed.
Friday 12th It was a fine day. The wind has moderated, but still blowing from NE. The Steamer went out early this morning. The boys were cutting bush. I finished pruning in the farm orchard and was then digging on the far side of the orchard.
Saturday 13th It was a fine day. Henry went fishing with Mr Walter to Big Omaha, but they did not get many. John & I mended up the fence near Mathesons.
Sunday 14th It came on to rain about 11 am, and continued all afternoon. One account of the weather there was no service. Tom & George Pratt came in the afternoon and staid for tea.
Monday 15th It was a fine day. The boys were cutting bush. I was digging the far side of the orchard. Maud went to Mrs Fordham’s in the afternoon.
Tuesday 16th It was a very showery day. The boys were cutting bush. I was splitting palings and making cases. By the Steamer in the evening I received a paper from my brother John, & a letter and paper (Gardening Illustrated) from my brother Tom.
Wednesday 17th There was very heavy rain early this morning and showery during the day. Charlie Wyatt went up in the “Rose Casey”, he is going to be married tomorrow.
The boys were cutting bush. I was splitting palings.
Thursday 18th It was a showery day. The boys were cutting bush. I was splitting palings.
Friday 19th The boys cut down a large traida tree and split into rails. I was splitting palings. I went to Mr Walter’s for tea & to the Library after where there was a meeting to choose some new books.
Saturday 20th It was a fine day, but there was a shower in the afternoon. John went up into the bush in the morning and brought home “Spot” who is near calving. Henry finished splitting rails. Joanna McKenzie came for tea & went to the Hall with them in the evening. Robert & George Wyatt borrowed John‘s horse & took horses to Warkworth to meet Charlie & Maggie who are coming by the Steamer this evening, but on account of the heavy rain they remained at Warkworth all night.
Sunday 21st It was fine in the morning, but it rained in the afternoon & evening. Charlie & Maggie & the boys came home in the afternoon, I went to call on them. Mr Moor preached in the Hall in the morning. There was no service in the afternoon.
Monday 22nd It was a very fine day. The wind from the south. The boys were cutting bush in the morning , I was trimming and sharpening rails. In the afternoon John, Charlie & Maggie came up here, they helped us to kill the Sow. Afterwards we castrated the Boar.
Tuesday 23rd It was a fine day. John Wyatt came early in the morning and cut up the pig. It only weighed 230 lbs and was not at all fat. We helped them decorate the Hall. The Steamer came in early.
Charlie gave a party in the Hall in the evening in honour of his marriage, there were about 100 persons present, and it passed off very well.
Wednesday 24th Henry hauled up some goods from the Wharf that came by the Steamer, he also hauled some luggage for Charlie.
John was digging in the orchard, also Henry in the afternoon.
Thursday 25th The boys dug manure in the bed intended for Onions, and dug the bottom of the orchard in the afternoon
Friday 26th It was wet in the morning, but it cleared up & was a fine day. The boys were cutting bush. I made Cases in the morning & dug in the orchard in the afternoon. Mr & Mrs Walter & the boys came for tea & spent the evening. It came on to rain in the evening and it rained heavily all night.
Saturday 27th It was wet in the morning, but it cleared up and was a fine day. We cut a lot of firewood in the morning.
Sunday 28th It was a fine day. Read service in the afternoon.
Monday 29th Henry hauled some goods for Mr McLaughlin. The boys were cutting bush. I was sharpening rails in the morning. Digging in the pm.
Tuesday 30th It was wet in the morning , but cleared up in the afternoon. The boys were cutting bush. I was mending fences.
