Tuesday 1st It was a fine day. Willie and the Avey boys walked over to Ti Point in the morning and came round in the afternoon in the “Rose Casey“. I was planting the Cypresses in the morning and in the afternoon I went down to the Steamer, after we came up from the Steamer we were cutting tea tree.
Wednesday 2nd It was a fine day. Willie and I were cutting tea tree in the front.
Thursday 3rd It was a fine day. Willie and I were cutting tea tree in the front.
Friday 4th It was a fine day. Willie and I were cutting tea tree in the front. Jane took the Avey boys to the Goat Island beach.
Saturday 5th It was a fine day. Willie and the Avey boys went fishing to the Goat Island beach and they brought home a 12¼ lbs Schnapper and several Rock Cod. I was cutting tea tree in the front in the morning.
Walter took Charlies bull out of this place. There was a meeting of the Road Board in the afternoon.
Sunday 6th It was a fine day. Willie and the Avey boys walked aver to Ti Point to spend the day. The Salvationists held a meeting in the Hall in the morning and Mr H. R. French (Wesleyan) held service in the afternoon, Jane and I attended the latter.
Monday 7th It was a fine day. Willie and I were cutting fern and tea tree in the front.
Tuesday 8th It was a fine day. My cold was so bad I did no work out of doors, but went down to the Hall and Post Office in the afternoon.
Mr Avey, George Hill and his father were up here for tea and they all went down to a dance in the Hall in the evening. I remained at home.
Wednesday 9th It was a fine day. The Avey boys left by the “Rose Casey” this morning, Willie went down to see them off, he reported that he had a big cargo of fish, about 80 sheep, and several passengers. Mrs Sim called in the afternoon, we gave her some flower plants. Minnie and Alma came in the afternoon and intended returning home in the “Kawau“, but they missed her so they came back here and staid all night.
Thursday 10th to 17th My cold and cough were so bad that I took to my bed and remained there the whole of this time, only getting up in the afternoon to tea and to get my bed made.
Tuesday 15th Willie packed 2 Cases Kentucky apples and hauled them down to the wharf, he brought up a bag of 5 sorts of Potatoes from Yates.
Wednesday 16th It was a fine day. Willie went to Goat Island beach, he went out in a boat with Dan Kempt to fish, he brought home 2 Schnappers and 6 large Rock Cod.
Sunday 20th It was a showery day. Willie went over to spend the day at Ti Point.
Revd G. T. Marshall held service in the Hall in the afternoon, none of us went.
Monday 21st Willie went down to the Store in the morning, and Ted Harper hauled up 100 lbs Flour and 1¼ Cwt Potatoe Manure.
The Committee of Management of the Matakana Butter factory, came here in the pm to sign the papers in connection with it, namely
A. Campbell, Ernest Vipond, Sam Crocker, Wm Meiklejohn, G. W. Sim, W. Neeley & J. C. Wyatt.
It was a showery day and in the evening and during the night it poured with rain.
Tuesday 22nd It was a showery day. The “Rose Casey” did not come this, as she is going into the dock.
There was to have been a Social in the Hall in the evening, but on account of the weather it was put off till Friday evening.
Wednesday 23rd It was a fine day. Jane rode over to Matakana to a euchre party and staid all night. Willie and I went down to the Hall in the afternoon and washed up all the crockery left from the last Social.
Thursday 24th It was a fine day. Willie & I were fixing up the back of the dresser with tin to keep the rats out. We were cutting tea tree in the afternoon.
Friday 25th It was a fine day. Willie & I were cutting tea tree in the front. Jane returned from Matakana in the pm, Minnie came home with her and Joe came later on.
There was a Social in the Hall in the evening, Joe and Minnie went with us and Minnie returned with us and staid all night. The Social was a great success, Ping Pong being the great attraction, the sum of 38/- was taken.
Saturday 26th It was a fine day. Minnie returned home in the morning, Willie went with her, to fish, he brought home 1 large schnapper an 3 rock cods. I was working in the flower garden and Jane went down to the beach to Uncle Johns, there were some heavy showers in the evening.
Sunday 27th It was a fine day. I read service in the Hall in the afternoon.
Monday 28th It was a fine day. We commenced to plant Potatoes the top side of the house, commenced planting next to the Strawberries, 14 lbs of Early Puritan. 4½ rows 2 ft 6 in apart, manured with Potatoe Manure K P & Co. The half row was next the top fence, next to these we planted 14 lbs of Early Manhatten, same distance apart and same manure, 5½ rows.
Tuesday 29th There was a shower of rain last night, but it was very fine today, although it looked very dull sometimes. Willie took the Eggs down to the Store in the morning and to order a Sack of Maize.
Finished planting the Potatoes the top side of the house. Planted 1½ rows of Magnum Bonum. Willie and I went down to the Wharf in the afternoon to meet the “Rose Casey“. Ted Harper delivered a Sack of Maize in the afternoon. Willie went to Ti Point to take Joe‘s dog back that came round in the Steamer.
Wednesday 30th It was a fine day. We planted 1 row of Magnum Bonum Potatoes and 2 rows of Peas (Strategem) between the Peach Trees below the house. Burton Witten called in the afternoon and Ernest Wyatt came in the evening.
Thursday 31st It was a fine day. We were planting Potatoes (Magnum Bonum) next to the Peas.
Mary Ann Pratt called in just as we were sitting down to dinner, and Mr Kempt called in the afternoon to sign an affidavit.
