Sunday 1st I rode over to Dacre’s Claim in the morning to take the service for Mr Saddler. I went up to have dinner at Birdsalls and returned home in the afternoon. Read service in the evening, there was a good congregation.
Monday 2nd We killed a Sheep in the evening, a fat ewe that we got up from the beach. Went down to the Hall and helped put up the tables for the Show.
Tuesday 3rd Went down to the Hall in the afternoon to receive the exhibits and staid there until after nine oclock.
Wednesday 4th It turned out a fine day. I was up early and was down at the Hall receiving exibits. The Show was a great success in every way.
Thursday 5th Went down to the Hall in the afternoon to clear up.
Sunday 8th Charlie, Maggie and Mr John Runciman came for tea.
I read service in the evening.
Monday 10th (should be the 9th) Willie Pratt was working here all this week splitting posts in the felled bush. We were all working up on the hill carrying the posts out and hauling them down near Grahams to be out of danger of the fire. Maud brought up our dinners every day, and we returned home for tea.
Saturday 14th Willie finished working here this afternoon. Paid him £1 for his weeks work, Maud went home with him to stay over the Sunday. There was a meeting of the Show Committee in the Hall in the evening to Pay the prizes. They voted me £3 . 3 . 0 for my services.
Sunday 15th I went up to Mr Walters in the afternoon & had tea there. We came down to the Hall for services, there was a good congregation. Maud returned from Pratts.
Monday 16th We were carrying out posts all day and burning off heaps to clear the ground to stack the posts on.
Tuesday 17th St Patrick’s Day. There were some Calidonian Sports at Matakana. Willie came and took Maud. Henry went over with the bullocks to haul some stuff for Mr Harper. John & I staid at home and picked 2 Cases of Damsons & 1 Case of Lemons, 13½ Doz mine and 4 Doz of Henry‘s.
Wednesday 18th We were working up on the hill, we hauled out some posts in the afternoon. Went down to the Wharf in the evening. We had 3 Bags Flour & 1 Cwt Bone Dust up by her from Cuthbertson & Morton. The witnesses against James Greenwood returned by the Steamer, J. G. pleaded guilty on two charges of forgery & embezzlement and was sentenced to three years with hard labour.
Thursday 19th We were working up on the hill all day. Hauling posts and the boys hauled our Flour & Bone Dust from the Wharf in the morning.
Friday 20th We were working up on the hill all day. We killed a Sheep in the evening. I went to Mrs Fordhams in the evening.
Saturday 21st The boys were working up on the hill in the morning. I cleaned out the pigs and did other odd jobs. Meeting of the Road Board in the Hall in the afternoon.
Sunday 22nd Mr Moor preached in the Hall in the morning. I went and Joseph Greenwood and his little boy returned with me & spent the day. I read service in the evening, there was a good congregation.
Monday 23rd John returned to Big Omaha to work on the gum flat this morning. Henry & I were getting some pieces of ti tree to shoe the sleigh with.
Tuesday 24th We picked one Case of Damsons & one case of Beurie Diel Pears.
Wednesday 25th Henry hauled the 2 Cases of Fruit to the Wharf and then he hauled the pieces of ti tree home that we are going to shoe the sleigh with. I went down to the Wharf in the evening.
Thursday 26th Henry hauled one load for Harper & three loads for A. McKenzie. I was digging in the garden.
Friday 27th Good Friday. The Easter Holidays commenced today, Maud & the girls and all the school children had a picnic at the Goat Island. Henry & I picked in all the Reinette du Canada’s & Golden Russetts. We burned off the bush in the evening.
Saturday 28th We were logging up on the hill. The Annual Meeting to elect a new Show Committee was held in the Hall in the evening.
I was elected again, also appointed Secretary.
Sunday 29th Easter Day. I rode over to service at Dacre’s Claim in the morning, went to Mrs Ashtons for dinner. Returned home for tea, found Mr Rayner & Miss Pratt there. Read service in the evening, there was a good congregation.
Monday 30th John returned to the Big Omaha flat in the morning.
We were logging up all day.
