Tuesday 1st Henry & Willie returned to Pakiri in the morning. The girls returned to School after their holidays. John & I went down on the farm to pull up tea tree, but it came on to rain and we had to come home. It rained all day and it blew very strong from E. John took down Mr Haseldon’s apparatus to the wharf. The Steamer did not come in on account of the wind.
Wednesday 2nd The Steamer did not come this morning. John & I pulled up tea tree in the morning. John cut bush in the afternoon. I made cases in the shed, it was showery in the afternoon.
Thursday 3rd John & I pulled up tea tree in the morning and we cut bush in the pm. The wind has moderated, but it still blows from the NE. There were a few showers.
Friday 4th It was a fine day. We cut bush both morning & pm.
Saturday 5th It was a fine day. We were cutting bush in the morning. The girls were pulling up tea tree on the farm. John went shooting in the afternoon, I did odd jobs.
Sunday 6th Henry returned from Pakiri in the morning, he is going to stay at home this week. It rained heavily last night and this morning, but it cleared up in the afternoon. I read service in the afternoon, there were 12 present, James Dunning came for tea, also W.P. who staid all night.
Monday 7th We were cutting bush in the morning. There was a heavy shower of rain in the middle of the day. The boys continued cutting bush in the pm. I was making cases in the afternoon.
Tuesday 8th We were cutting bush both morning & afternoon.
Wednesday 9th The boys got the bullocks up in the morning & Henry hauled some good for T. W. K. and Haskells also 3 bags Flour and 1 Sack of Sharps for usthat came from Cuthbertson and Marton by the Steamer last night. John & I cut bush.
Thursday 10th It was showery in the morning . I made cases in the shed. The boys cut bush, we all cut bush in the afternoon.
Friday 11th It was very fine in the morning, but there was a heavy shower in the afternoon. We were cutting bush all day. I went to the Library in the evening to see the new magazines that have just arrived. I heard of the death of Mrs Williams which occurred on Wednesday morning and she was buried at Matakana this afternoon.
Saturday 12th Showery day. We cut bush in the morning. The boys went digging gum in the afternoon and got over 40 lbs. I cleaned out the pigs and did odd jobs.
Sunday 13th It was showery all day. Mr Moor was to have preached in the Hall in the morning, but he did not come on account of the weather, and there was no service in the afternoon. Henry went to Pakiri in the afternoon to see if John Salt wanted him this week, but he did not, so he returned home again. Willie P. came in the afternoon & staid all night.
Monday 14th It was a fine day with the exception of two heavy showers in the afternoon. We were cutting bush all day.
Tuesday 15th It was a fine day. We were cutting bush all day. Wille P. came in the afternoon & staid for tea & staid all night.
A new Manager for the Store came down in the Steamer this evening , named Mr Lauchau, he has a wife and two children.
Wednesday 16th John hauled some goods up for the Store in the morning. Willie and the boys went out fishing, but they only caught four fish. I was underscrubbing in the morning. It rained in the afternoon & night .
Thursday 17th It was a very dull day, but we only had a shower in the afternoon. We cut bush all day.
Friday 18th It was wet in the morning . I was making cases. We cut bush in the afternoon.
Saturday 19th It was very showery both morning and afternoon. We cut bush in the morning. The boys dug gum in the afternoon. I cleaned out the pigs and cut a lot of firewood. Maud and Henry went to the rinking in the evening.
Sunday 20th It was a showery day. There was no service in the afternoon.
Monday 21st It was a fine day. We were cutting bush in the morning. We killed the Young Sow in the afternoon.
Tuesday 22nd It was a wet morning. We cut up the pig, it weighed 109½ lbs. The Steamer did not come this evening on account of the weather.
Wednesday 23rd We were cutting bush all day. The wind was blowing very strong.
Joseph Harper came in the pm and took away 2 Young Pigs.
Thursday 24th The wind was blowing very strong from NE. We were cutting bush all day.
Friday 25th It rained all day. John sharpened a X cut saw and Henry dug gum down at the Hall.
Saturday 26th We cut bush in the morning. The boys dug gum in the afternoon. Showery day. Alec Haskell came in the evening.
Sunday 27th It was a fine day. Mr Moor was to have preached in the Hall in the morning, but he did not come. I read service in the afternoon, there were only 11 present. Walter Wyatt & Willie Pratt came for tea.
Monday 28th It was a fine day. We were cutting bush all day. We found our Cow “Molly” had fallen into a hole where we had been cutting bush, we got her out, but she could not stand, so we fed her where she was.
Tuesday 29th We cut bush in the morning, it rained in the afternoon. The boys sold their gum to A. Haskell. Tom Pratt came and staid all night. The Steamer did not come.
Wednesday 30th Henry went to Pakiri to let the people know that we have young pigs for sale and also to bring home his clothes. We killed “Molly” as she could not stand and we thought she would never get right again. John and I cut bush all day.
Thursday 31st We were cutting bush all day, we took our dinner with us and therefore did not come home in the middle of the day. Clara & Herbert Fordham came in the evening.
